GD=Gestational Diabetes Test

I am surprised that you are supposed to eat before it. Did they mention to not eat for 2 hours before the test? I am afraid that it might alter your results some if you eat just before you go in. You should probably call them and make sure of what you should eat and when. I obviously won't be having that test since I am already diabetic, but I know that food can affect your sugar level for up to 4 hours, at least it does with me. I think that is why they do the 3 hour test if the first one is failed. Anyways I hope the other girls can help more. If I had to guess you would want to watch your carb intake on that day. Like 35-40 carbs for a meal and 15-20 for a snack and try to have a protein with the carbs. You wouldn't want to eat a bowl of ice cream before you go in. lol

I hope you pass with flying colors!!

See, my doctor told me I didn't have to fast. I took the test twice, once at 16 weeks, and again at 26. (I started out heavy, so she wanted to be cautious) and the first time I ate not long before drinking the stuff, and it was fine. It is a good idea to call and ask, though, because every doctor does it differently.

I would have a snack ready for after. Higher protein, I believe. The first time I did it, it made me pretty sick to my stomach.

Advice from a friend of mine - If they allow you to, get up and walk around after you drink the stuff. It will help you burn off the sugars!

My doctor told me I can eat but nothing with a lot of sugar which I totaly get. Also I can drink water before hand because of the ultra sound but not after I drink the stuff. I was just wondering if a bowl of cereal or a bagel with cream cheese would be fine to have. I cant go till 3:30 to eat for the day.

I know my case is different, but I just thought I would let you know that I notice a bowl of cereal really sends my sugars up. It is nothing but carbs in cereal. Honestly you would be much better with peanut butter toast, if you like that or some eggs, bacon, and toast. Basically something with a protein to keep the sugar numbers steady.
