I've been taking the same prenatal vitamin from Trader Joe's (which claims to be gentle on the stomach right on the bottle!) since I first started TTC in January. The vitamin has almost always made me blanch or gag but only made me vomit once or twice when I was pregnant with my losses.

Lately, I vomit EVERY TIME I take that vitamin. I took it on an empty stomach and wretched into the toilet bowl for 15 minutes. I took it before my bowl of oatmeal in the morning and threw up the vitamin and the oatmeal shortly thereafter. I took it AFTER my bowl of oatmeal in the morning and threw up the vitamin and my oatmeal.

TODAY, I simply put the vitamin in my mouth and threw up my cereal from breakfast.

My question is this:

Do I need to seek a different vitamin? If so, can you all suggest some?

I take Primacare one and I have never had problems with it, although I haven't suffered much from m/s at all. You might try taking it before bed though instead. I have heard that others can only tolerate a flinstone vitamin in the early weeks but the flinstone doesn't have the omega acids in it, so you will want to try to eat some (lower mercury) fish a couple times a week and be sure to eat leafy vegatables to get your folic acid as well. I would talk to your dr. about it though, they might have some samples for you to try and see which one sets better for you! Sorry its giving you so much trouble.

Ugh, that sucks! I haven't had that happen to me, but mine does make me gag. I have to take it only after filling my mouth up with water. Then I slip it in and swallow. I ditto the taking it right before you fall asleep. I had a friend who had to do that. Otherwise, maybe your doctor could suggest one that would be gentler on your stomach.

I never have had a problem. I take the costco brand. But like Rhonda said try taking it right before you go to sleep or with a glass of milk (the milk will coat your tummy). Good luck and I hope you get some relief!

I also take the Primacare one brand. I've never had a problem with it other then to gag once in awhile while taking it. Try taking it at night before bed or asking your doctor for a different kind. Until then you can take flinstones vitamine. I hope you find a kind that wont make you throw up.

I had that problem during my pregnancy w/ my ds, and I ended up just quitting the vitamins all together because I was so disgusted after trying 2 different OTC brands. This time around I am on a prescription vitamin, and I haven't had any problems with it. I don't know what's different about it (it's coated pink, while the other one's were brown; and this one has no smell, while the other ones just reeked) but it's working for me. I'd talk to your doctor about the vitamin issue, it's not doing you any good if you throw it up every day. I can check out what exactly mine is when I get home this evening, but I think it's called Natalcare.

Thank you ladies. Kaiser won't let me schedule my first prenatal appointment until AFTER I've gone to a prenatal class, which I will be doing Thursday, so as soon as I see a doctor I will see about getting a better vitamin. In the mean time, I'll try taking it right before bed.
