I know, I know, I am crazy. But now I am questioning when I am going in for my ultrasound again. Do you all think 6w5d is late enough to see a heartbeat? My RE insisted (I asked her twice) that she should be able to see a heartbeat by 6 weeks. She said I could schedule it as early as Sept 8 and I chose to wait until Sept 11. I'm also guessing since it is an RE's office, that her ultrasound machine may be a little better than some of the machines that OB's have? My RE said she wanted to do ultrasounds at 6 weeks and 8 weeks so I thought I should do it during the week that she wanted to (week 6).

I don't know if I am just over thinking it because I am nervous and I just need to stick with my original plan and go for it. Or re-schedule for later.

I wanted to have it done Thursday because my mom, dad and grandma are coming (as long as u/s is good) on Friday to spend the weekend with us and my mom, grandma and I are going to do celebratory baby shopping (or at least browsing). And my niece's birthday party is Saturday. So it would just be nice to have it done before the weekend.

I just don't know what to do. Dh is getting annoyed with me because he told me he thinks everything will be fine, and doesn't want to talk this over to death, but I can't help it.

I was thinking about maybe calling my RE's nurse on Monday and asking her if 6w5d is far enough along to see a heartbeat. I feel fairly sure that she will reassure me that it is and maybe that's what I need to hear so I can suck it up and go.

What do you think?

Shannon.... in all honesty some people cannot see a HB at 6wd5...but MOST can. I think a lot of the problem is not everyone knows when they O...and therefore can only guess at how far they are. Being off by just a couple days can make a big difference. I also found the machine at my RE's office was not as high tech as the ones at my Ob's office. I also was seeing a RE who clearly wasn't in it to make money. So I am not sure if they just chose not to spend the money for the machines with all the bells and whistles... KWIM?

That said.... I REALLY think you should keep the appointment... but go in with an open mind. If you don't see a HB at 6w5d... there is no reason to think that the baby isn't a healthy one. In my heart I think you will see a baby with a beautiful little heart beating away.

I hope I helped and didn't confuse ya more

I think if the Dr. told you that you would be able to see a HB at 6 weeks then she probably knows her machines are good enough to pick it up that early..

I pretty much ditto what bobbie says.. But I have had 3 different pregnancies where i was able to see HBs at 6w 1d..(layla). and one at 6w2d and then this one 6w4d... So i am sure you will be just fine...

Im excited about sept 11th for you!!!! I understand the fears you have... But i am excited enough for both of us!

I agree with what has already been said. I was able to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks, 2 days with this little one. I think you should still keep your appointment. Good luck!!!

I just wanted jump in and say that this baby had no heartbeat at 6 weeks and did not show up until 7 weeks 2 days. I just 'knew' it was another miscarriage....WRONG!

I really feel for you especially this nerve-racking part...you will make the right decision for you!

KUP! And GOOD LUCK!

I think you should stick with your appt. You will probably be able to see the heartbeat, though I do know sometimes it takes a little longer.

I think you should keep your appt too. Like bobbie said, the most important is that you are sure when you O'd. I know I had problems with seeing the hb right away but by 5w5d they saw the hb at the hospital and again they saw it at the OB's office just 2 days later and that is when they dated me to be 6w2d. So I think that they "should" be able to see the little hb by then. If for any reason your dates are off then it could be a little harder to see, but they will do a blood draw to ease your mind. I know they checked my levels often. I am sure you will see your little bean's heartbeat and then the rest of your day and weekend will be wonderful!!

Something is telling me that after all this nervousness and anxiety you are going to have a WONDERFUL appointment. I'm gonna go with my hunch and suggest you keep this appointment. I believe you're going to be more than pleasantly surprised.

i saw the hb at 6w1d. so yes it's totally possible and i think pretty common. you should go!

eta: actually they thought the baby measured 6w1d at the u/s, but i was actually 6w5d at the time (confirmed by most recent u/s). but you are at 6w 5d when you go for yours!

Thanks ladies, I think I just needed a little encouragement to keep the appointment. I will most likely keep it and hope for the best...I don't even know if I would be able to reschedule if I wanted to, because my RE is usually booked pretty far in advance.

I know if I DON'T see a heartbeat, I am going to think the worst, I just won't be able to help it. But I will try to think positive that I will see that little baby and heartbeat.

I charted and took OPKS, so I know my dates can't be off by more than a day, so that is good.

Well I talked to my RE's nurse and she said they should see a heartbeat as long as my dates are right. (They are, I know I'm not off by more than 1 day.) This is when they normally do the 1st u/s.

So I guess I am keeping my appt. I can't shake these nerves though.

And to top it all off there is another stupid hurricane in the gulf heading straight for us.

I'm glad you are keeping the appointment, I saw a h/b at 6w5d, so I'm pretty sure you will see it too. When it's the appointment again?

I just wanted to add that I saw Erin's hb just short of 7 weeks. I think I was 6w5d, but I can't remember.

Anyway good luck honey!
