Nope...Dh and I talked about it in the beginning...but we decided for our mental health it would be better we didnt get a home doppler...all it would take is one time not being able to find her heartbeat and I'd be a freakin manic crazy mess...not good for me OR her...

no, I wanted to, but I just decided to wait it out. It was really hard, becasue there were times when I was freaking out and I know that hearing the h/b would have made me feel better.

Yes ive got one. I ordered it as soon as I got home from my 9week u/s and it came the next day! There are times when I was'nt able to find the h/b and I freaked out but I can find it easily now and it really helps calm me down when I am worried x

I hadn't even thought of doing that! But no, probably not...i'm with Danielle...once i'd be far enough along to hear the hb but not be able to find it, i'd be a basket case until i could get back to the doc to confirm everything was ok...

No, to me it's just a waste of money. It's nothing something you can use forever. I'm at the point in my pregnancy that I can feel movement, so I don't worry about hearing the heartbeat. Plus, I get plenty of doctor appointments this pregnancy. So, it's either the doppler for the heartbeat or an ultrasound.

I don't know yet. Since Roald's problem is not likely to happen again and I will have more monitoring, I don't think it is necessary. It really bothers me that Roald was dead for days already when I found out at my monthly check-up. So if they give me more check-ups (at least when I hit the second trimester) I don't think I'll want the doppler. If I do get one it wouldn't be until after 16-18 weeks when I know it would be easy and very likely to get the hb when I use it.

I don't want the temptation to use it all the time, b/c really the effects of it aren't very conclusive, and routine use isn't reccomended.

I will buy a fetoscope though, since I'll need one as a midwife as well, and it is safe to use to my hearts content! I'll also buy a doppler, but not for a while- they're really expensive for a good one, and all the rentals are usually not that good.

I loved mine! I didn't use it too frequently, but I knew I could if I was scared, and even that was such a relief. I never had a problem finding Ella's heartbeat either, I was just patient and kept at it till I found it.

ETA: I bought mine. For what you pay to rent a decent one, we just decided to buy it, and then re-sell it when I was done with it.

By the way, it's still for sale. You would not believe the amount of people that have backed out after saying they wanted it.

I would love to purchase one but right now I just can't justify spending the money on it.

No but a friend acquired one for me. The ER she works at got newer ones and they were just going to throw it away. And absolutely nothing wrong with it, just they wanted newer ones. We listen at least twice a week.

I've heard some of them don't work well. What kind would you recommend, keeping a budget in mind? I realllly want to get or rent one.

We did and it's been a life saver. I didn't use it until I knew I'd get a heartbeat of course so I didn't worry myself. I also asked our doctor to "train" me to use it properly so I was able to get an HB reliably. I've been using it to make myself feel better since about 12 weeks and up. I had a stillbirth at 23 weeks so we plan to keep it until after 24 weeks.
