Have you ever heard this term before?

I was lurking around on other loss sites and they kept mentioning Rainbow Babies. I had never heard it. (here is the site Stepping Stones: a path to healing after the loss of a child: Lightning Strikes )

A Rainbow Baby is a baby that come into your life after a loss. This new child brings the color back into your world.

I love this term!!!

My angels were sparkling little glimmers of hope and joy and when I lost each one of them my world went dark. I was numb. It was not that I did not have other sources of joy in my life. It was just that I felt empty.

When I got pg with Kaylie I was excited again. And as my belly grew so did my hope for her future. She brought the color back to my world. She is my 1st Rainbow Baby.

I lost 2 more babies before I got pg with Scott. And again as my belly grew with him the color slowy crept back in. He is my 2nd Rainbow Baby.

I am blessed.

I have never heard of that. Such a good idea - Thea is my Rainbow baby!
She really has made my life so much better when i thought before that i would never get to the point where i had a baby in my house. It was just loss after loss. Now i have and 8 and a half month old crawling through my house. I couldn't be more lucky!

I have two! Does Patrick count since I didn't have a loss immediately before him? I think that he definitely brought more color back. Erin made my life colorful again, Patrick made it more vibrant. If that makes sense.

If this one is my rainbow baby (I hope!) then Tanith is my Sunshine baby. She kept me sane a after the loss, and it's definitely her shining through my tears that made me see the rainbow waiting for me!

Of course Patrick counts! He IS Cora's little brother!!! On the site I found this saying the mom had 2 living children then a loss at 21w and then went on to have 2 Rainbow Babies.

Yay for rainbow babies. My three boys, like Karissa's little Tanith, are my sunshine, but my rainbow baby will bring color to all of our worlds. And, after losing my mom and my little angel all in one year, I think our new little miracle will be bringing more color than we had expected after such a rough year. Thanks for sharing the term. i love it.

What a beautiful way to put it. Hannah is my rainbow baby too then!! Definitely puts color into my life again, not living in black and white anymore thats for sure. Just some times of grey once in a while.

Yeah, losing a baby affects EVERY baby you have afterward I think.

Both Nick and Jon(along with this one) are my rainbow babies. As many losses before Nick I never thought I would be a mom and this August he will be 5. Jon and this little one were conceived 4 wks after a loss, which brightened my life.

I love that term, it brought tears to my eyes.

Awww, that made me break down and sob. At work no less.

Such a beautiful way to look at it. Both of my children are Rainbow Babies in this sense. I've heard so many things about the passing of children, m/c, etc; but never about the joy that the next child brings to your life. I think it's wonderful to hear how I feel about them put into words, as I've never been able to accurately voice that feeling.

I'm still crying.
