Sorry it's been a few days since I have been on, ladies, but I have pretty much been living in the NICU.
Yesterday, we received the results from the biopsy they did on Tuesday, and we received Owen's diagnosis. He has a condition called Hirschsprung's Disease, which is basically a problem where a section of the colon doesn't have the correct nerve cells to allow it to work the way it is supposed to.
We know have to wait until the first week in June for surgery. They will go in and cut out the bad section and then reconnect the good sections together. The doctor said recovery after will probably be about 1 week.
My friend created a CaringBridge site for us to keep everyone updated, so if any of you are interested in reading more about what's been going on, or to see pictures, you can go to www.CaringBridge.org/visit/owencook If you want, you can even sign up to receive notification when we post new journal entrys.
Hope everyone is doing well and hope to be back on before too long!

Thanks so much for updating up. Owen has been in my prayers this week. I can only imagine how hard this is for you to go through as a mother. I will pray that the surgery goes well. Hang in there, we are all praying for you!
Thank you for taking the time to update us! I'm sorry you have to go through this and I am praying that everything turns out okay! Take care of that little one and know that we're all thinking of you! Keep us posted when you can!
Melanie - I must have missed Owens’s birth announcement......so sorry! He is completely adorable - Congrats!!!! I will be praying for him and thinking about your whole family. I hope the surgery goes very well and that his recovery is quick. Lots of hugs and love for you all.
I'm so sorry you are going through so much right now, Melanie. I know that the physical pain I've felt this past week is NOTHING compared to the pain of seeing your little one go through such an ordeal. I'm glad his surgery is so soon and he can begin his recovery at that point. You, Owen, and your whole family are in my thoughts and prayers!
Just stopping by real quick before I head to the hospital this morning.
Owen is improving every day. His surgery is scheduled for June 10...I was hoping it would be earlier, but the doctor said that is the first time he could coordinate his schedule, his assisant's schedule, and the OR schedule. <<sigh>> The only good thing out of that is that he may get to come home for a little while before the surgery. The only stumbling block is his eating. He has only been eating for a few days, but they want him eating 2oz every 3 hours. I guess that's the amount that is required for his weight. He does eat sometimes, but sometimes, he's just more interested in sleeping. We will see what today brings...
I am still trying to keep current on everyone else, but just no time to post. Hope all is well and I am thinking about you all! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers...please keep 'em coming!
