Hi everyone.

I've had some spotting/bleeding today and am thinking of going to the hospital for a scan tomorrow. I have read that you can't always see a heartbeat this early (6 weeks) and think I would be even more worried if I don't see one. So I'm wondering what your experiences have been if you had an early scan.

Also were the hospital staff kind to you or did they think you were overreacting?

Thanks for your help

I had an ultrasound at 6w 1d and we got to see the heartbeat. The tech did tell me not to worry if we didnt see it though, because sometimes it can't be seen until around the 7 week mark x

I never had a scan at 6 weeks or earlier, so I'm no help. Sorry!
If you decide to go for a scan, I hope you see a beautiful heartbeat.

I saw the h/b at 6 wks, but, they told me NOT to worry if they didn't see one. Six weeks can be pretty early. And, depending on when you O'd, dates can be off. Gestational age and PG age using LMP can be very different this early on...and days make a difference. If you decide to give them a call or go in, please let us know how it goes. How is the spotting now? Hopefully it's going away. There have been so many women that I've met (here and IRL) that have had spotting and went on to carry to term and have healthy babies, so, try to remember that... Please, please let us know how you're doing. thinking of you

I had a scan a 6w1d this pregnancy and there was only a fetal pole, no h/b. I went home and freaked out. I went back, crying, two days later (6w3d) and they did another u/s. That day there was a h/b!! It was too early to hear, but you could see it just fine.

Girls that is a huge help

Klt I have worked out my dates from when I o'd... because it was the 1st cycle after my 1st af since the D&C in March I o'd a week late on cd21, therefore in Dr's terms I am 7weeks and 1 day from the 1st day of my last period.... BUT I just counted 38 weeks from the date of ovulation for the EDD... I explained this to the OB when I made my appointment and they said knowing when you ovulated and working it out that way is much better anyway than just going by your period. So I am really 6 weeks and 1 day today.

princesskate thanks for posting and voting That helps me heaps

Jen I wasn't aware what a fetal pole was until I just looked it up on the net.. Your story is very reassuring too

Does anyone know if they did a vaginal scan if it could make my bleeding worse? Or would they just do the stomach one?

This morning at 6am there was more red blood to wipe... after 5 wipes the tissue was still not clean... It wasn't on my liner this morning but AF usually doesn't get my liner over night either, when I stand up it all comes out then (sorry tmi!)

dh got home late from work last night so when he wakes up we will call the hospital. I think it will all be fine though as I don't really have any pain going along with this blood.... It's a good excuse to go and have a scan done anyway though I think! I will let you all know what happens xoxoxoxo THANK YOU AGAIN

Addition 10 mins later: Just went to the loo again and its heavier, red and the SMALLEST little bit of clumped blood (wouldn't call it a clot) but it is heavier I will be calling the hospital when dh is awake..........

I chose yes, but my scan was closer to 7 weeks.

As for the bleeding...I have heard of women having bleeding like that and everything being okay. So hopefully it's the same for you. Good luck honey!

Cherished - You know my story so I won't vote. I just wanted you to know I am thinking of you and praying everything is ok. Like so many women on here have said, bleeding can be completely normal, although very scary. I would definitely go to the hospital to get some reassurance.

Best of luck and sticky vibes. KUP.

Thanks everyone and Mel you're so sweet thinking of me.... I've shed a lot of tears today... it has gotten worse, all red blood now, I would say it's a light flow now. Not too painful, just feels like my period. I'm so upset and worried. I know many woman bleed and things are ok but I just wish it wasn't happening to me. We went to the ER and sat there for 1 and a half hours and than decided to leave. We would have been for about 7 hours if we had stayed and it's not like they could actually do anything to affect the outcome whether it be positive or negative. I'll go to the dr as planed Wed and maybe they can give me a referral for an ultrasound so that I don't have to wait... We'll be getting the results for the HCG BT on Thursday so I guess I will have to wait until then but hopefully have an ultrasound done on wed if possible.
