So yesterday I went out to the garage to look for something and noticed that the deep freezer was left cracked open. I looked inside and everything in the door, on the top shelf, and near the sides was starting to thaw. This is a BIG freezer full of farm raised beef (dh's grandparents give us 1/3 cow each year) and venison. Dh left it open the previous day (thank goodness it wasn't MY fault). He had to wake up after only 3 hours of sleep and help me try to figure out what to do about it....he was not a happy camper! We ended up handing out meat to neighbors because it wasn't bad yet, but couldn't be re-frozen. We also had friends over for all of the best cuts of steak last night. Tomorrow is short ribs. The most heartbreaking part of it all was throwing out bags and bags (probably 20 6oz bags) of breastmilk!

Oh my! I watch and infant and it's always difficult to get enough milk for the baby every day from her mom. I know she about died when she shifted positions the other day while pumping and both bottles spilled.

Oh, no! I kind of wish I lived near you though! My husband would have been ecstatic to receive free farm-raised meat!

That's a bummer. And, you're right...glad it wasn't you that left the freezer open. Hopefully the neighbors enjoyed the best cuts of steak. Was any of it able to be saved? Throwing out all that breast milk is a bummer, too.

Oh NO! from a pumping mom, I know how precious that milk is, I get so mad when I have to pour out some BM, it breaks my heart because it's hard to get it out, it's a lot of work with a baby and a toddler, I'm so sorry......

Oh that is really crappy! I know when I nursed my son, I called breast milk liquid gold. It was so hard to pump enough for him when I wasn't with him that it was just so precious.
