a fetal heartrate dopler thingie? I am seriously considering it. I know they make the home ones you can use with headphones but I don't know if you can hear well early on. And its not much more to just purchase a real one.
So am I crazy to want to purchase a real one off ebay or something? I really want to be able to listen to my little one whenever I want.
I was 100% ready to buy one....I've had 2 losses and felt like I really needed it. I asked my nurse the last time I was at the doctors and she was very blunt with me and said:
"The dopplers we use here cost well over $1000. The ones you buy are probably going to be between $50-100. You get what you pay for. The cheaper ones don't work very well and I would be afraid you will freak out if you can't find a heartbeat".
I decided i'm def the freak out type and it's probably better for me to just try and be confident!
Good luck in whatever you choose! There are some ladies on here that love theirs.

It is a Hi-Bebe 2 mhz, and once I found Logan's heartbeat at 12 weeks, I had no problem picking it up whenever I wanted to. Before that, I believe it was operator error that was preventing me from hearing it. My friend, who also owns the same model, found her baby's heartbeat around 9 weeks.
Do lots of research, find out what worked for other people, and if you decide to buy one, I hope you find it as reassuring as I did!

I bought one last pregnancy, it cost maybe $80, and it was totally worth it. It works great, though sometimes the baby hides, my OB nurse says they aren't fans of the doppler and will wiggle away while they still have room in there. Sometimes I get scared and just need to check in on my little man. Mine is a Hi Bebe. I lent it to my SIL for her pregnancy too.
thanks ladies. I am still considering it, but so far I am not worrying too much about this pregnancy which I hope is a good sign. And I think havnig one may make me worry, but it may be worth it. I don't know, still up in the air.
I have not gotten one. I would love to have one but DH is not found of spending money on things like that. Plus, our doctor says they don't know exactly what too much can do to a baby and he was worried I would use it every day (and I probably would)!!

Hmm I never thought about it. All I know is even if you can't find the HB and something did happen, there was no changing it anyway, so I am not sure if it really would be worth the money
I don't have one and probably won't spend the money. While I would love the reassurance I am fairly certain this is the last baby we will have so it seems like a waste. Plus I have heard of people freaking themselves out with them and I wouldn't want to take that chance either.
Initially I really wanted one for this pregnancy but I knew I would become obsessive with it. I decided not to spend the money on it, but rather save for a 3D U/S which would cost about the same thing. I guess I was lucky in that my doctor told me anytime I got worried, I could come to his office that day to get checked out (I had a scare at 17 weeks and then another one at 27 weeks, both times I was seen immediately).
I looooooooooove mine. I have a Hi-Bebe and it works like a charm. I thought I would be obsessive with it, but DH & I just listened at night before bed to ease our fears and then it slowly became less and less often that I used it. Then when movement picked up, we use it maybe once a week now.
I had a day where I was VERY busy (I think around 24 weeks) and even after drinking tons and tons of cold water, I was starting to freak that I didn't feel any movement or kicks or anything for the entire day. Instead of going to L&D in a complete & utter panic, thinking the worst, I was able to search for the HB with my own doppler. Somehow he was wedged underneath my pubic bone from all of the walking and once I heard the HB, I was fine.
I paid about $85 for mine and they have a GREAT resale value.
I have one and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! It is so reassuring to me. I bought a used Baby Beats brand off of ebay for $76 and the new ones sell for $500. I don't know too much about other brands, but I know baby beat, Elite, and stork radio are all good ones. My doc has an Elite brand.

I rented one from bellybeats when I was pregnant with my first. I kept it for so long that I ended up paying it off. The one I rented goes for about $600.
I find having one to be a relief.

I bought mine off of Ebay for @ $80. I was really addicted to it for a while, it really did calm me down a lot before I could feel him move.
I figured I would keep it for this pregnancy, and again for the next since we are going to TTC again next summer, then sell it on Ebay.
It was really fun being able to record the HB on the computer and send it to the grandparents.
