Today was my OB appointment. My regular OB is on vacation so I saw another OB in the practice. Well, I am 4 cm dilated, 50% effaced (though my OB said I was 75% effaced last week), and -2 station. The OB today said that if I start having regular contractions I need to get to the hospital quickly because labor might be fast for me. She also said that she didn't think I would make it to my OB appointment next week. Then I come home and I have intense back pain again (also had it this morning). I used a heating pad and took a bath and it went away but I am starting to wonder if back pain is how my body labors? I had back pain with DD the night before my water broke and back pain (and contractions in my belly) while in active labor. I just hope I know when I am supposed to go to the hospital!

Just curious... anyone BTDT mom's find out they are 4 cm dilated at an OB appointment. If so... how long did it take for you to go into active labor?

Oh, how exciting! That's great to be starting out at 4 cm, at least. I wonder if your back pain means that baby is in an unfavorable position? Maybe try doing some pelvic rocks and squats throughout the day? There are probably other things you can do to help with position, but I can't remember them right now. I can't help you on when you'll go into labor, two inductions here. Good luck and keep us posted!

I have been worried about baby's position... and have started doing some different exercises with the exercise ball that I have. Hopefully that will help!!

Emma... I hope it happens soon. Of course, now I am totally on edge and it will be just my luck to take forever

woohoo!!!

With my last daughter, my midwife didn't say if I was dialated or not, but as she did the internal she said that I was further along than she thought I was initially, and then as soon as I got home I started having painless contractions. I woke at 2 am with my first painful contraction and started losing my mucus plug, I had my daughter at about 1pm that day.

Wow!! How exciting! I have always heard that once you are over the 4 cm hump and in labor, things move really quickly! Sending easy labor and progress vibes!!!

Just had to share that last night I read a whole bunch of stories about women being dilated 4 cm FOREVER! Seriously, like 3-4 weeks. I so hope that is not me I feel like I am in limbo. I am now on summer break (last day of school was yesterday). I was thinking about all the things I want to do but I am doing more just waiting around. I know I should go walking to try and jump start labor, but I am so uncomfortable (feel swollen, and belly pain every time I walk... more muscle than contractions). Oh well, I guess my big baby will show when he is ready!

If I remember correctly, with DS they told me that if I was 4cm they would admit me since labor was probably really close. Good luck and hopefully baby gets here sooner than later.
