hi all, new to this site. i'm pregnant with my 5th child. lost a baby last december to some pretty major birth defects...most notable ones being absence of limbs...

wondering if any moms out there have had successful pregnancy with healthy children after having a child with major birth defects.

had our first sono on monday and it showed the baby measuring 5 days smaller that expected. so far the doctor is not concerened though. i go back in 3 weeks for another sonogram. praying that the baby is measuring normal this time.

would love any input from someone out there that has gone through a similar situation!

thanks!

Welcome to PAL and Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I am very sorry to hear about your loss.

I had still born twins and one had sever defects - No head due to spinal development problems - My twins had TRAP Sequence.

My next pregnancy after that, I had my son Cecil who is a healthy toddler, and I am now pregnant again and due in Feb. So far so good on this pg.

Measuring 5 days behind is perfectly OK and reasonable. You could have ovulated later than you thought or the baby did not implant right away....there are many factor that can afffect it.

KUP on how your u/s goes in a few weeks...we would love to know how you are doing. Also, if you have any other questions, just want to talk or anything at all.....the girls of PAL are here for you and just post away.

I have not been through that, but I just wanted to say welcome to the board and congrats on your pregnancy! My son was behind by weeks every u/s, and he is just fine. 5 days is no big deal. Keep us posted!

Welcome and congrats.
My 2nd child had Trisomy 13 which comes with a host of abnormalities. I am now pregnant with baby #3 who is due in about 2.5 weeks and he is totally normal and healthy from what I know.
Measuring 5 days off on your ultrasound can be perfectly normal.

I just lost a little girl in february to Trisomy 18 which causes many abnormalities that aren't compatible with life. I'm now 21 weeks pregnant with a healthy little boy.

Welcome! I'm so sorry for the loss of your child. I lost a daughter who had a rare condition which caused malformation of many of her internal organs (notably heart, liver, lungs, spleen, appendix, intestines, etc.) I am pregnant again and we don't know yet if this is a healthy baby, but the doctors have told me that the odds are in my favor. I would imagine that since you've had many other healthy children that the odds are also in your favor.
