My itching seems to have started . I had Obstetric Cholestasis with Juliana and it has an incredibly high rate of recurrence with subsequent pregnancies. I'm happy that I've made it this far, but was certainly hoping to get further in before this started...I have read that some women itch for awhile before the level (bile acid) actually starts to show in their blood tests. I had a routine OB today and he sent me with the lab sheet for another draw. Unfortunately, these tests take nearly a week to get results. High levels mean medication and a higher likelyhood of early induction. Our goal is 37-38 weeks, but if levels get too high or the medication doesn't work, some babies need to come sooner. I hope that isn't me...wish me luck!
Sacha, its tough to say when it started last time. It became unbearable and prevented me from sleeping at 38 weeks and she was induced shortly after. But I had all sorts of problems with kidney stone and was blaming itching on drugs and dark urine (another symptom I have) on stones, etc.
I should note that even if my numbers are high, I'll be put on a medication that will hopefully "manage" my levels until induction. The only way (Toby ) will need to come earlier than 37-38 is if the meds fail. Still, its scary to not know how it all will play out.
So you have to wait a week to get results of your numbers, and then take some medication (if it's too high) and then wait another week to see if it has helped? That's a lot of yucky, scary waiting time.
Praying for all to go well for you and the 'lil one.
darn it...like Sacha i was hoping you wouldn't have this issue again Kelly - even though I know they told it it was likely you would. I'm glad at least this time they know what it is, when to expect it and are ready to manage it aggressively. I had some itching on my hands while pregnant (which was not serious) and it about drove me insane in the final month, i can't imagine how frustrating your is...
