I am so excited/nervous to get through today... I miscarried at 16 weeks before and I am over-analyzing every symptom today...

with that being said, I am so mad at my doctor. I called to reschedule my March 8th appt due to a conflict, and I simply asked the nurse could I please schedule an u/s since I had a loss at 16 weeks and my son was diagnosed with brittle bone at 20 weeks... (both losses) I am terrified to get an u/s, but I also think it will ease my mind about both the BBS and the miscarriage. The nurse said it wasn't medically necessary and I would have to pay out of pocket... I am shocked for two reasons.

1. He has been my doc for 7 years, 5 pregnancies, 1 living child.
2. I was given an u/s at 15 weeks, the week before I miscarried and there was no medically necessary reason then either.

I got the appt, so I am just going to pay for it and complain to my doctor afterwards. I would think if I didn't have a history of complications, then I would agree on the medically necessary issue, but I have had a ton! Why do I feel guilty for taking the u/s?

I NEED RELIEF from my nightmares about my D&E, babies dying, c-sections gone wrong, etc... I can't get any sleep from my horrible nightmares. Every night it is a new nightmare.

Sorry to vent! I lurk a lot and know you ladies are amazing!

Either way, I'm glad you're getting an u/s! Even if you have to pay out of pocket (which sucks), you will get some peace of mind. I cannot imagine your fear. Of course you're scared. Anyone would be! I am hoping you have a wonderful u/s! Good luck!!

That is dumb that they won't cover it. I think I would call back and or go in and ask to speak with the DR not the nurse. With your history I could see it being medically necessary. Sorry you are having so many nightmares. I hope the u/s will ease your fears and help you sleep better. Good luck.

Good luck! I'm glad you are getting the u/s too, the peace of mind is worth it. It sucks that you should have to pay though, it should be deemed medically necessary IMO.

I'm sorry about the anxiety and the nightmares, and also that your doc's office receptionist was such a PITA!!! I think if you manage to get ahold of your actual doctor, he would order you an u/s, with your history and anxiety and all. I hope that works out. And in any case, lots of T&P for your little one being safe and sound!!!!! KUP!

congrats on the 16 week milestone!!! that does stink about having to pay for the u/s out of pocket...i'm really surprised they don't consider it medically necessary if for no other reason than to reduce your stress levels given your history...Drs can be soooo different about that - friends of mine had OBs who'd do u/s at drop of hat...my OB was pretty strict and did them rarely.

Congratulations on your milestone! Each day gets you closer to holding your LO.

I would ask to speak directly to your doctor. He knows you and your medical history and should be the decision maker with the ultrasound. The nurse is probably going by the book where the doctor will go by the needs of the patient.

Keep us updated!

Congrats on passing a milestone! I would talk to the Dr about the ultrasound. He can change the code so that it is covered by insurance.... I have had 12 ultrasounds for this pregnancy, only 2 of which were "medically necessary" (the 20 week anatomy scan, and a 32 week scan to diagnose Polyhydramnios) The other were really for my own sanity, and to avoid an amnio... My insurance has covered them all!

Congratulations on reaching 16 weeks! Ditto the other ladies - I hope that you're able to get the u/s covered, and sending T&P that all is well!
