So, since Tuesday morning I have been having contractions. I was at L&D yesterday for 10 hours with contractions every 3 minutes... They are completely useless though! I was dilated 1cm a d 50% effaced 11 days ago and yesterday I was 2cm and 80%... They did an ultrasound yesterday and Peter weighs about 8 pounds! Yikes!

They tried hydrating me to see if the contractions would go away but they didn't. They eventually sent me home since I wasn't dilating anymore, but the contractions are still coming every 3 minutes! I either want them to go away, or be effective. I am considering using some herbs and nipple stimulation to get things moving. I don't want to spend a month contracting uselessly... I am open to suggestions to get them to stop though...

I don't know how to get them to stop other then hydration and rest. That usually works for me. The only time my dr did anything to help them was when my DD was having trouble and I thank God everyday my dr was proactive. If you want to help move things along try a warm relaxing bath (helps me if I am not so stressed by the pain), walking can help move things along, sex sometimes works but always fun to try haha. I am sure there are others. Red raspberry leaf tea is said to help. Some of the wives tales I don't put much stock into. Good luck. At least you are making some progress being at 2cm instead of 1cm .

Sorry I am not BTDT and can't help you too much... I've heard the usual things, drinking water, having a sip of wine or other very small amount of alcohol, taking a hot bath or shower, resting/napping... I hope they will get better and give you a break!

For calming things down - I'd suggest a glass of wine and a warm bath! Or tylenol and a warm bath. Also ditto the hydration and meditation. I had a whole bunch of contrax at about 32 weeks, Drank a bunch went in to L&D and it all went away. Stayed away till about 38 weeks. I had them every night for a week until she was born - just a few then a few more - until the last 2 nights I didn't sleep and she was born at 5 am.

I was there Oct-Dec and I know how frustrating it is. I had preterm labor starting at about 33 weeks. The other ladies gave some wonderful advice. If you are wanting to start something i'm not entirely sure if this is really helped or not but I would take a nice warm bath and I rubbed castor oil on my belly and placed warm wash clothes on it. For some reason I always got contractions by doing that. Walking can help too but it's really only if your body is ready.
