Hi All,

So I met with the maternal fetal medicine specialist today, and she was very encouraging. She actually suggested the least invasive, least risky way to bump up my platelets is with a short course of oral prednisone if they drop below 90K. Compared with other corticosteroids it has much less risk of crossing the placenta so has little to no effect on baby, and the risks to me are very minimal as well. She does not see any reason for a c-section in terms of my low platelets, and sees NO reason for general anesthesia, which is awesome! She also thought a platelet transfusion was quite reasonable but instead of exposing me to blood products felt the prednisone was the safest and easiest way to go. So our new plan is a short course (weeks' worth) of pred if the platelets go below 90, and continue with the twice weekly visits and NSTs, and we can drop back on checking the blood to once a week.

Platelets today were 104K up from 91K thursday which is great news so I don't need the steroids yet. Blood pressure was great and all other labs too and still no protein in my urine.

My MW and I discussed her checking me today and although they don't usually check you unless you are showing signs of labor she felt that giving an internal exam with a little 'oomph' might be able to get some prostaglandins going and start the process since I am 38 weeks now, and she said if I were dilated or effaced at all she could strip my membranes if I wanted her to and I said yes.

So she checked me, nada. She said my cervix is juuuuust starting to soften but she wouldn't say it's effaced at all, and with some pressure she was able to get her fingertip in my cervix and dig around a bit. It was uncomfortable but not bad, and I've been cramping off and on and had a little bloody show since. The hope is that it will 'piss my cervix off enough to maybe get something started' lol. We may try again next week too if nothing has happened by then.

So, the great news is that the VBAC seems to be back on the table and a good, solid possibility now which I am thrilled about, as is monitoring and allowing me to go into labor on my own.

Yay!

So glad your platelets have come up so much and that your VBAC is a very real possibility. I know they striped my membranes at just over 38 weeks to help me along with my second. I had an induction scheduled after that visit as well but it was worth a shot . Glad to see good updates.
