So I had my followup/12 week appointment today. Baby is doing great, but my SCH has now grown to 9cm! I am so upset, I have been on strict bed rest for nearly 3 weeks and it grew 2cm. So now 2 more weeks of bed rest until I get checked again, my Dr. is going with "just wait and see" and hardly told me any of the risks. I put a call in with some questions, but probably won;t here from them until tomorrow. I am so worried, 9cm seems pretty big. Has anyone else had an SCH? please share your story...

Mine didn't grow from what they told me. But my Dr. didn't even seem to have the need to tell me about it. I was specific about asking about the placenta to get answers. I hope it resolves itself soon.

My SIL had one and it was pretty big (although I don't know exact measurements) and she just had her healthy baby girl last week She had the SCH til 16 weeks, and like you it seemed to grow with each time they checked it and she was still bleeding and everything so it was scary. But at her 16 week u/s it was magically gone!

I'm sorry to hear that it grew. I really don't know much about them, but I would think it's a good sign that baby is growing well at almost 13 weeks.

I had one in the pregnancy I lost a year ago...I started to bleed at 7 weeks and miscarried at 9 weeks (after the bleed got a little smaller and baby grew)...Mine bled a lot and never stopped...I read while I was on bedrest being obsessive that in more cases than not, they usually resolve themself...Are you bleeding? if you aren't bleeding I think that's good, and the fact that you've made it so far...Lots of T&P that it will resolve soon!!

I don't have any experience with SCH, but I hope that it resolves itself by your next appointment!

Thanks ladies. I am not bleeding, I had a huge episode of bleeding about 3 weeks ago and went to the ER where I was put on bed rest. I have not had any bleeding or spotting since. Also the SCH is not behind the placenta which is a good thing, the size is concerning. My OB said it's the biggest one she's ever seen. I hope at my next u/s in two weeks it has gone down a lot or is completely resolved.

Im sorry that the SCH has grown so big and your so concerned. I would be too. I have not experienced a large one, but have read many story's here on JM, about large ones and the baby's went to full term. Praying that it resolves soon and your worry's are much less.

I know nothing about this. I'll be thinking of you though and praying for the best. Hopefully, in 2 weeks, there will be no more SCH!!!

Hi There,

I am sorry that you are going through this, SCH is sooo scary in that it is so unpredictable. Studies actually show that bedrest has no effect on whether or not it gets bigger or goes away, but doctors really don't know what else to do so they impose it.

I have both a negative and a positive story in regards to SCH, and I'll share both. I had one with my second pregnancy that presented itself as bleeding around 6 weeks and I was certain I was miscarrying, it was a lot of blood and some large (quarter sized) clots. I went to my OB the next day and had an ultrasound. Surprisingly there was a little bean in there with a strong heartbeat, and a large SCH, bigger than the baby and it's sack. I was told I had a 50% chance of miscarriage and sent home. I went back after another bleed around 7 weeks, again sure I had lost the baby and nope, he was still there and growing with a strong HB. At 8 weeks, I wasn't so lucky. I had a hemorrhage at home, and went in the following morning and there was no heart beat. I had to take cytotec and passed him the next night.

4 months later I got pregnant again. I was anxious so they did an early ultrasound, despite the fact that SCH is rare (<3% of pregnancies have SCH and in those <7% lose the pregnancy.) I had another SCH, bigger than the baby. I was terrified. My OB sent me home on modified activity and we planned to follow up weekly with ultrasounds. I had a few light bleeds with that SCH and each week the baby was growing. Some weeks the SCH was bigger and some weeks it was smaller. By 14 weeks it was totally gone.

I now have a healthy 7 1/2 week old baby boy.

I hope you have a positive outcome with your pregnancy!

I did joined an SCH support group on baby center and it helped.

Yes, when I had episodes of bleeding it was accompanied by cramping. I kept thinking I was m/cing because it felt very similar. But baby is still doing great.
