Good news from my OB this morning - I passed the AFP test with flying colors!! This baby has a 1 in 12,000 chance of Spina bifida - a huge improvement from the 1 in 100 chance that any one with a previous diagnosis of NTD has. I will feel more confident of course after Monday's anatomy scan, but this gives me a much more positive outlook leading into the u/s.

Other than that, I got to hear the heartbeat for the first time since my 14 week exam, which is always reassuring.

Awesome AFP results!! Are you going to have an amino or just stick with the ultrasound scan?

Thanks, all!

Missy, we are planning on just the u/s. My perinatologist says SB is not detected on amnio unless it is a symptom of a genetic disorder (at least i think that is what she said - this is going back to my first loss and i was in a haze that day). After two losses I can't take any more risk than necessary and since my first SB was likely caused my own genetic mutation of not processing folic acid, the doctors don't think it is necessary unless the u/s is inconclusive.
