Hi guys, I need some advice because I am sooo stressed about this.

With my last pregnancy, I went to a regular OB because I had no way of knowing I was high risk. They were great but because I need a cerclage I decided to go to a perinatologist instead, for this pregnancy. The peri office has been horrible so far. They haven't returned calls, and are really rude on the phone. Last week I thought I needed meds for a UTI and after going to a lab, basically hunting them down for my results (they never EVER call back) I learned that my urine culture was a "contaminated sample" and I have to re-do the whole thing.

I just really feel like the peri office could care less about me, or my pregnancy since its so early and I'm considering going back to my old doctor and seeing a different perinatologist for my cerclage. I feel that my old doctor, who delivered my son at 18 weeks and felt absolutely TERRIBLE about it, really cares for me and is interested in my case.

I have no idea what I should do and I get really emotional about this because I actually kind of miss my old doctor. She helped me through this terrible time and really hoped that I would be her patient for the 2nd time around.

What do you guys think I should do and ALSO, did you change doctors after your loss or did you stick with your current doc?

I would change doctors asap... It is just as important that you feel comfortable with your doctor as the care you are getting.

If you have the option then go with what is in your heart. Your old doctor already understands what you are going through due to your previous loss. ((hugs))

I am so sorry that your having trouble with the peri office. If I was you I would contact your old doctor and see if she can recommend another doctor. Maybe you could go to her for the first couple of visits.

I kept my old doctor for this pregnancy because he was so awesome. I am not necessarily considered high risk right now though.

I hope you can find a doctor that you love that you feel cares about you.

Thank you so much! I had a mini-meltdown and called my old OB, I got an appointment on Friday and they told me I could come in at ANY time for a nurse visit for her to test for UTI and give me meds if needed. I feel 1,000 times better and you're so right, you have to feel comfortable with your doc...

Thank you! I DO love my old doctor and only changed docs because I felt so absolutely steadfast on changing EVERYTHING medical after my loss. But as soon as I got pregnant, I started feeling deep down like I really miss my old doc and I trust her fully. She knows my story and was totally there for me last time.

I kept my old OB. He went through both my losses with me and was so great with that. I figured why change, it wasn't their fault and I knew they would do what was needed to put me at ease and help me have a healthy pregnancy. And they have been wonderful. Glad you called your old DR and hopefully they can recommend another peri. You have to feel comfortable and listened too.

I would definitely go back to your old OB. She really seems to care about you, and I am sure she would go above and beyond to ensure the good health of your baby!! If you have to be referred somewhere else for additional testing or ultrasounds, I would be adamant about not going back to the peri you are currently at. They should be the ones who understand of all doctors!!

I kept my OB. She went through both of my losses with me and called me weekly after the first one to make sure I was okay. She's been such a support system, and her dad (her partner) has always been great as well. Around here we all go to a peri for the 12 and 20 week scans and my OB would certainly refer me to a specialist as needed but she's the primary doctor for each of my pregnancies and regardless of the losses, i wouldn't switch as i know she really, really cares.

I'm sorry they are bot treating you the way you should be, i am glad you got in with your old OB

I changed me OB but not b/c of my loss, he delivered DD but is now 76 , i just didn;t feel comfortable going back to him even though I didn't have a bad experience.

I am glad you called your old doctor! You need to be comfortable with your provider.

In the places I have lived it is standard practice to see a regular OB and a peri as 'shadow care' with the OB delivering and the peri/MFM doctor dealing with the high risk stuff. Maybe the peri and staff is not used to dealing with the routines OB stuff?

I'm so glad you called your old OB. I changed from my Dr. to the midwife (in the same office) after my MC. The midwife was just so much more understanding, patient with me, willing to discuss my fears, etc. That is SO important! I haven't looked back!

I'm glad you called your old OB! You should be with someone you feel comfortable with that is going to help you not stress you out more.

Ditto what every one else said.

I changed doctors but it wasn't because of the loss, it was because I hated the nurses. I am still seeing the RE until 8 weeks and then have to decide what to do.
