Hi guys,

So after my little UTI scare, my OB prescribed me a prophylactic dose of the antibiotic Macrobid from now until the 36th week of the pregnancy. She remembered last time that I had a bladder infection when I went to the ER last time at 18 weeks and no one could say if a UTI or Incom. Cervix caused my loss. So she was being (thankfully) overly cautious this time and decided to give me this antibiotic.

At the time, I was happy but now that I'm home I'm starting to worry about any side effects it may have on the baby. It is supposed to be very safe during pregnancy but thee are still those horror stories online. I also read that people who have to take this long term need to have their kidney, liver, and lung functions tested regularly...***? Have any of you guys had to take an antibiotic for the whole pregnancy and was everything OK?

I have never taken an antibiotic during pregnancy but do take pain meds for my migraine headaches. It can be nerve wrecking but my attitude is we have to put faith in our doctors that they are doing what is best for us and our babies. ((hugs))

I think if your doctor feels comfortable enough to put you on it they must think the benefit out-weights the risks. ((HUGS))

I have had to take antibiotics this pregnancy and in the past but not for the whole pregnancy. I agree we have to trust our dr and it sounds like your dr is being cautious so that you can hold your little one at the end and bring them home. I would ask about the testing if you are worried. It might put your mind at ease.
