Its official - I just got laid off from my job. My last day is November 4th. At least I have notice so I can file for unemployment today and hopefully get some kind of monetary benefits.

I am so stressed out. It was so hard not to cry on the phone with my bosses. I know it was an extremely uncomfortable conversation for them as well.I dislike the economy right now. We were just barely keeping the bills paid as it was. The bank called today saying they are going to take my car in a few weeks. Man this sucks so hard.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I am so sorry Missy. The economy does suck, my DH usually gets laid off for a few months every winter and I have no idea how we will pay the bills/buy baby stuff this year. It is very stressful, I hope the unemployment goes thru quickly and you can find something to make ends meet. ((Hugs)) Try not to stress your body too much, I know easier said than done.

I'm sorry Missy. Money problems are pretty common right now. We struggle with a one person income also. I hope unemployment comes through with no problems.

And perhaps it's inapprpriate to make a joke here, but all I saw was "It's official. I got laid" on the screen. Of course, I was instantly intrigued. LOL

Sorry you're having troubles though Missy.

Missy, I am so sorry. Hopefully unemployment kicks in quickly. I wish I had good advice or something else to add. Are you going to look for another job or wait until after the baby is born?

Jenny - it was funny what you said.

Courtney - I would love to find another job right away but honestly who is going to hire me at 37 weeks pregnant? I know "they can't discriminate" but really... I guess I will start sharpening up my resume and get it out there right after she is born. But then again we are coming into the holiday season where most departments in my industry shut down for most of the month of December into early January. I put the word out that I am looking and everyone is saying the same thing - that no departments are hiring - try back in the spring.

I am really freaking out. I have never been without a job since I was 12 years old. I have an excellent work history and impeccable job references. I am scared.

Deep breaths...

I'm so sorry Missy! I remember the feeling I got laid off two weeks before Christmas several years ago. I panicked, I had never been unemployed, and I was denied unemployment because although I was drawing a salary I was technically a contract employee.
I hope you find something quickly. Maybe even look into short term disability since it's going to be hard to find something till after Scarlet gets here.

A lot of retail stores are hiring seasonal help, but I agree, it's tough when you're so far along. Also, you'll be exhausted if you're on your feet all the time.

Missy I am so sorry. That is why we moved out here to Texas, the economy tanked back in Las Vegas. I feel so much safer out here. I hope you get your unemployment quick. On the other hand, you might qualify for Medicaid for your pregnancy and for the kid's insurance. I wish I could help.

Missy, I am so sorry
They took DH's Bonus away that he was getting every 3 months the last 12 years... it comes to $100.00 a month. I know its not a lot but with a baby on the way that $100.00 could have bought a couple outfits and paid for diapers every month.
My Job is very seasonal and I only have 3 weddings left for 2011 and no more until May 2012... then those I am probably going to have to hire out and lose more money on since I am due in May.

I am trying to figure out a way to come up with the $2000.00 thats due by 35 weeks to pay my hospital deducable.

I agree about looking into Medicaid. With you pregnant you should NOT be denied.

Missy, I am so sorry. I wish there was something I could do to help you. I hope you can get your unemployement started real soon. At least that will help you some. I would keep my eye out up here but that is a little to far for you.

With the baby coming I have deceided to go back to work until the baby is born to help out things. Bill got laid off so things are tight here also.

This economy does suck.

oh my goodness...Did they lay you off for lack of work?? I really hope it was not because you are pregnant. I would be PISSED.

I am so sorry this has happened...I know how stressed you must be. Praying something works out for you and you won't lose your car. That is just awful.

You def should be able to get Medicaid. I would try to get as much help as you can right now. Unemployment shouldnt be a problem either since you it wasn't your fault that you were let go.

*hugs*

Missy I am so sorry. This economy is so terrible. It took DH months to find work a few years ago. I am sure it's not much better now. I would be looking into WIC and other state programs too. They should help out some with food and such.

I forgot about WIC! They were awesome when I was pregnant with my first 2. I got milk, eggs, cereal, juice, etc. before the kids were born. I got peanut butter, baby carrots, and canned tuna after they were born because I was breast feeding. They give you all your formula too.

I'd also try for food stamps and any other assistance that you can. When I got laid off back in 08, I had to do food pantries to keep food on my table. It has kept me very thrifty and made me creative in the kitchen.

It is for legitimate lack of work. The client for the contract I was assigned to is not renewing due to budget cuts to their marketing department. It was even harder for my boss to tell me about the lay off as he is a good family man of 2 children and even told me today on a personal level this is the hardest thing he has had to do in business.

It is what it is. I get medicaid and wic now because my DH was out of work and the boys are all still living here and going to school. So at least we have her formula and medical expenses covered.

Thank you girls - I will fight back and make this work, the initial stress just got to me today. I really appreciate your support. Hopefully the contract job DH is working now (he is on commission) pays off like we think it may.

((hugs)) you all rock!!
