So When I was pregnant with Peter I took Prometrium orally from 3 DPO until 12 weeks preggo. This time, my midwife wants me to take the same capsules (the little round pink capsules) vaginally. So it doesn't affect my breastfeeding.... This seems really strange to me, has anyone heard or or done this?

I'm no doctor or anything but I'd think that it wouldn't matter which way you took it, if it gets into the breastmilk taken orally, I'd think that it would be in the breastmilk if you take it vaginally too! You could talk to your pediatrician to see if it's an ok medicine to take while BFding because they would know too.

I know that some of the pills can be used interchangeably (orally or internally). As for the breastfeeding, I have no idea.

The concern isn't that it would pass through my breastmilk (apparently it does not) the concern is that it would affect my supply... She said that using it vaginally will localize it to my reproductive area...

I just think that it is weird to put a pill up there! They have suppositories!

Alot of women have taken the "pink capsule" vaginally as well as orally. Taking it vaginally will localize it to the uterus mainly. The reason why dr.'s prescibe it orally is usually because the progesterone levels are really low, compaired to higher levels in cases where the prescription is prescibed vaginally as a precaution, rather than a progesterone defect.

Either way, it does the job!
