I asked my friend that supposedly had the implanon about it this week, but it turns out she didn't have it and is getting the IUD next week. So I'm back to not knowing anybody with it. If I'm going to get it, I need to schedule the appointment soon. It looks like it will cost about $100 which wouldn't be bad for 3 years....I just wish I knew how bad the "random bleeding" would be...granted I probably won't bleed the first year since I'll hopefully be breastfeeding.

Hmmm... I wish I could help you with this. Like I said, I have had both types of IUD with no problems, but not what you mentioned. I hope someone will know.

So I just had a night with my girlfriends 2 nights ago. I wanted to let you know that 1 of them is pregnant.... and was using implanon lol...She said the doctor said she is the slim percentage that has gotten pregnant while using it. Other than that she had zero problems with it.

I had Mirena, I had minor bleeding, nothing ever like a period, right after it was placed for a couple of weeks, it was like spotting, then I would spot a little bit every month around my "period" time, but never bled like a full blown period! I am not sure if Mirena and Implanon would have the same effects, but I would imagine that that effect would be similar, since they are both IUDs. GL in your decision!

If you are breastfeeding I would google and find out about the hormones and how it might effect your milk. Most OBs dont know that answer and will tell you its ok when it might not be.
Mine told me Mirena would not effect me or my milk and it totally mess me and my milk supply up.

But after my bad experianced with birth control and the IUD I will never use anything but condoms in the future. But this is our last baby and DH is getting the snip... maybe even before the baby is born he is leaving the when part up to me.

I have never used IUD or those forms of birth control. We have decided I am getting my tubes tied in about 2 months. I wish I could help out.

I didn't even think about the hormones and milk part. It may dry up your milk if you are BFing. If that is the case, I'd look into non hormonal methods.

Implanon is fine to take while breastfeeding (for most women) as it's progestin only...otherwise I wouldn't even be looking at the option.

Usually it is fine, but a small percentage of women using progestin-only contraceptives (including the Mirena IUD) do have some decrease in milk supply. It most likely wouldn't, but you should keep that in mind.

I did the mini pill last time which was also progestin only...so it most likely will be fine...but if not I can get it taken out....if I decide to get it that is.

Why haven't you looked into the Paraguard? It lasts for 10 years and uses absolutely no hormones.

I don't like the idea of having anything inserted into my uterus...for some reason it just creeps me out. Implanon goes in the arm instead. Also if I get implanon I can get it on this insurance year and only have to pay 10%...if I do any of the uterus ones I have to wait until January to get it in and will be a new insurance year.

Popping in from the May DDC...I did Implanon shortly after having my DD in March of 2010...I bled every single day for 3 months. Everyday. I was so fed up, I could not wait to get it removed. I also felt incredibly hormonal while on it. Each and every person is going to react differently so really you never know until you try it. My best friend did Implanon as well and did the same, bled everyday, she stuck it out though and it finally subsided and she still has it..her DD is 2 1/2.
