I also don't know anything about this I'm afraid but I hope that now with some answers you are able to get to the bottom of things. Are you staying with your regular OB or going to see a specialist? What is the plan of action your dr has in mind for you? Stay positive though!!!!

Oh I know all about this one! I don't have it but I did have a blood clot in my leg with my last pregnancy and a small one with this one. They tested me for everything under the sun after my loss. Luckily I didn't have any blood clotting disorders.

Anyhow, yes they will probably put you on baby aspirin. I've been on it since before I was TTC this pregnancy. I have to go off it on Thursday (36 weeks) to prepare for delivery so my blood isn't too thin.

They may also put you on heparin shots that you give yourself once or twice a day in the tummy. heparin does not cross the placenta so it causes no harm to the baby. it thins your blood more effectively than aspirin does.

As for Thrombophilia, basically you are at a higher risk for blood clots than the normal population. Does not mean you will develop one, it means you are at a higher risk. Of those who do develop DVT (deep vein blood clots) only 10% of those break off and go to a lung (which is what they are most worried about) and of that 10% there is less than 10% of dying from it (so the risk is actually less than 1% chance of death from a pulmunary embolism). Your risk of dying in a car accident is greater.

The major thing for you is that you will not be allowed to go on birth control pills or other hormones because that increases your chance of getting a clot. I believe it is just the estrogen in the BCP not the progesterone that causes the risk, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm not allowed on BCP either, even though I didn't test positive for any disorders, the fact that I had a clot (even though it wasn't DVT) puts me at a higher risk of developing one in the future.

So to sum it up, I think you will be fine. Being on baby aspirin and/or heparin will probably be all you need to do to have a healthy pregnancy!

susan my love, you just made me feel ALOT better. im axious as Heck to get to the dr. now and see what they want to do. Im not even as freaked out about the thought of a hematologist, just as long as i get some answers. i guess in a way, its better to know what the problem is rather than keep miscarrying and not know. THANK YOU!!!!!
