How much did your baby weigh and what size going home outfit did he/she wear home?

I am trying to figure out what size to get. My son was big (almost 10lbs) and I don't think he ever fit into newborn clothes, but he was also two weeks late. Since this baby probably won't be late (OB doesn't want me to go over), I don't know what size I will need. She is already bigger than average though.

The NB size (Carter's) says 8lbs and the 3 months size says 12.5 lbs. I am leaning towards going with 3 month, but I don't want it to be gigantic. It's been seven years since my son was born, so I don't really remember how true these sizes are as ar as weight goes. All of the pants look ridiculously small when you factor in diapers.

Liam was 6 10 and could have worn preemie if we had it. He was swimming in newborn clothes. We had brought a newborn and a 3 month to the hospital, not knowing how big he would be.

Kieran was 8 4 and could have stood a 3 month sleeper. He wore a newborn one home and his little feet were squished up. But the two-piece outfits were great in newborn.

I know you mentioned not knowing why birth length was important, but in terms of clothes, it makes a difference. Kierans length was what made him pop out of newborn clothes so early. He was never a curly newborn, he wanted to stretch out.

I vote newborn. Since she will prolly be earlier and a little smaller. Or just take one of each.

Aiden was 7lbs 11oz and wore 0-3 months home. Maryella was 6lbs 10oz and was swimming in 0-3 so she wore newborn home. Right now Keagan is 5lbs 14oz and Greyson is 4lbs 8oz, and they'll be wearing newborn when they finally come home. Carters tends to run big so newborn would probably fit as long as she isn't above 8lbs.

Madison was 5 days early 7lbs 14oz. All I brought to the hospital was NB sleepers and NB coming home outfit. None of the sleepers fit, thank goodness the NB going home outfit was a 2 peice and the legs were open so it worked to get her home.
I had so many outfits that never got worn.
So this baby I am telling everyone no NB clothing to start with 0-3 or 3 month. I got a sleeper yesterday (my first baby purchase) at Sam's that was Carters and its 3mo and the tag says 8-12 pounds. They say each baby gets bigger so I am expecting this one to be over 8 pounds.
If I do get lucky and end up with a 6 or 7 pound baby then I figure he will just be in his clothing a little longer and get more use out of them

Fat Finn was 8 pound 13 ounces and much bigger than anticipated. (Doc kept saying 7 pounds.) He fit into NB for about 2 or 3 weeks. And he wore NB home. (Edited to add: Finn was LONG, so he wore a 2 piece outfit home. Sleepers didn't work so well for him because of his length.) And, I brought a NB and 0-3 month outfit in my bag to the hospital. It's probably a good idea for you too.

Thanks everyone!

Seems like 7 pounds is the cutoff for 0-3m clothes being too big.

I have another gowth ultrasound at 37 weeks, so hopefully I'll find out if the baby is closer to 7-8 lbs then.

I am finally starting to wash clothes and I won't be able to return once I do, so I am just being cautious.

She was 6lbs 11 and a half oz at birth and just under 6lbs when we went home. She wore a newborn dress.

My daughter was over 8lbs when she came home from the hospital (all the IV fluids she got caused her to gain weight after birth rather than lose it like normal babies do). She couldn't fit newborn diapers, but she did still fit newborn clothes for a few weeks. In fact, the 0-3 stuff was on the large/silly looking side for at least 10-15 days.

Patrick and Allison were both in NB on the way home, Allison was 7lbs4oz and Patrick was 7lbs10oz. I had taken Erin a 0-3m one, but she was 6lbs14oz and swam in it

Nathan was 7lbs 12oz and 20 in long. He was in a newborn outfit to go home and it was a bit too big on him.

If you are looking for picture perfect, go with Newborn. Peter was 7.5 pounds at birth and fit into his newborn clothes until he was about 2 months old (about 12 pounds).... The 0-3 was ok, but baggy, the newborn looked cuter for photos.

My mom shoved Marsi into a 2 piece NB outfit. She was a little over 9 lbs when we left the hospital. It was a brand that runs a little bit small though. Another newborn outfit did well with her. She mostly had 0-3 month clothes though. Here is a picture of her in her outfit...

Mine have always worn NB clothes home but they have been less than 7lbs. I'm buying NB clothes for this one because I'm anticipating another small baby.

If your son was 10 lbs, I'd bring a 0-3 month outfit to the hospital. You could always send DH out for a smaller outfit if she is smaller than you think.

Taking two different sizes is such a good idea! As simple as it seems, I never thought of that. I had a 3 month outfit to take her home in (we had NO nb clothes as we were told she was going to be huge) and while she was in the NICU we went out and bought her a bunch of nb clothes, including her coming home outfit. So much for a 10+lber lol

Even though you might have a cute chubby baby, she is still going to be really little. Brynlee was 8 pounds 8 ounces and she was a bit too small for her newborn outfit. I think a 3 month outfit would drown a newborn...even if she is 9 pounds. Having said that though, she will grow fast...I wouldn't count on her being in a newborn outfit too long! How exciting to be washing clothes...your so close!!!

2 of mine wore NB (7lbs4ounce and 7lbs 14), the rest wore 0-3 (8lbs, 8lb14, 9lbs and 9lbs 2 ounces). I found 2 piece outfits may fit for NB but not one piece. My 8lbers could have worn NB but I was told she was going to be 10lbers so I opted for 0-3.

If you go with NB, get a 2 piece outfit.

I always purchased size 0-3 for going home outfits. Newborn ones can run way too small, especially if you have a bigger baby.

Alex was 7lb 10oz 19" and the NB clothes that I took to the Hospital were huge on him.
I agree take 2 different sizes.
