I created an Amazon baby registry eons ago (with my second pregnancy/loss) and kept it around so that I wouldn't have to re-figure out what I wanted. When I found out that I was pregnant this time around, I updated my due date (4/21) and spent the next 29 weeks adding and removing items from the list.

I didn't want to order anything until close to the end for a couple of reasons: I was paranoid that I would jinx myself, I was afraid that they got the gender wrong and I'd end up with a bunch of stuff to return and Amazon gives you a 10% discount one month from your due date on anything that they sell (vs other merchants on Amazon).

I've been comfortable for a while about buying things for the baby (no paranoia), but I've been sitting on my hands waiting for this 10% discount. Let me tell you, it takes a lot of self control for someone like me to not buy anything for 6 months and meanwhile everyone in the DDC is talking about all the stuff they've gotten. So, I changed my due date in the registry to 4/3, so I could get my discount sooner and have time to prepare before the baby arrives.

Yesterday, the discount became available but the caveat is that you only get 1 order to get it all. By the time I added everything into my cart I discovered two things: Amazon.com has a cart limit of 100 items and starts putting the oldest items into "save for later" as new items are added and it's impossible to checkout when you have 99 items in your cart. The site kept crashing when it tried to calculate the delivery dates for everything (based on which warehouse it was coming from).

So, I called tech support and the first lady was totally unhelpful and did not seem to understand that I could not split my order because I would lose my discount on the second one. She said she'd have some other department call me in 24 hours. I didn't feel like waiting another day since I'd already waited 6+ months, so I called back in and the second lady said that she would give me a manual discount on the second order if I split it. It turns out that everything was fine because the items were already in my cart (saved for later) with the discount, so she didn't have to do anything. Hooray!

So, I have 25+ boxes coming that include among other things a mattress, four car seats, a stroller, a baby gate, bottles, diapers, bouncy thing, monitors, diaper bag, high chair and changing pad. It cost about $3100 and I am saving about $400 with the discount and Amazon rewards card. Plus, I get free two day shipping on all of it, so over half will be here tomorrow and the rest will be here Friday. Best Amazon order ever! I am so excited!!

It's going to be like Christmas!

Anyway, I thought I'd share. I will post a picture of my garage will all of this stuff in it. Should be interesting.

Other than the cart issues that sounds like fun. Your house is going to explode with baby stuff this week!

I can't wait to see everything you bought!
I love Amazon, I could spent hrs looking at stuff. I been thinking about putting a baby wish list/registry but I haven't we don't need much, so I'm not sure if it's worth it or not.
It's seems like you did pretty good! I'm glad the second lady was more helpful than the first.

Courtney I think this is the most excited I have ever heard you get! That is really exciting and I can't wait to see what all you got! Amazon really does have a lot of great deals and I have gotten a lot of stuff from there. What color/theme are you going with for her room?

I am cracking up at how many boxes you have coming...that will be so fun! I would be in heaven receiving that many fun packages! Can't wait to see pics, I will have to live vicariously through you...I have been the same way, not really wanting to buy anything. I bought a pack of onesies the other day and an outfit...they are all neutral, but I have thrown a few things on a registry at Target here and there.

Yay for Christmas in March

Well, so far everything is kind of hodgepodge because I have dressers that don't match anything other than each other, a chair I bought used which is the wrong color and other miscellaneous furniture. The general theme is pink & green with ladybugs. I will take a picture once I have a mattress and probably ask for advice about what to do with the non-matched stuff.

Holy crap!! I don't know which shocks me more: That you even found 100 things to buy, that it came to $3100, that in 2 days, you are going to have boxes upon boxes of baby stuff to take care of, or that you managed to wait so long to buy stuff. How much fun did you have though?? LOL Enjoy all your baby stuff!!

Love pink and green with ladybugs! That is what we had for DD.

As for the mismatched furniture - DD now has one dresser that doesn't match, I will be watching to see what kind of advice you get, because it is kind of driving me bonkers...lol!

It was fun, but definitely frustrating to wait. On the plus side, I changed my mind twice on the car seats, three-four times on the crib (which I ended up buying at IKEA), a couple of times on the diapers and the stroller and many other decision flip flops (you can call me Mitt now ). So, I think the waiting was good for me because I think I have made better choices than my initial impulsive ones, especially on the crib.

Me too. I hate the mismatch but on the other hand I am lazy enough to not really do much about it. Story of my house.

Our house is the same way in regards to paint, I am just lazy enough to not care that the walls are all white with some drywall work here and there...drives me nuts to see the spackle, but not enough to make me want to paint it....haha!

Holy cow! I don't even think I have 100 things on my registries combined! Plus I am super jealous I must say. I wish I had $3100 to spend on baby stuff. I would be so freaking excited every time a new box came! Definately post pics as the stuff comes in!

It was the quantities or similar items that made the total of items so high. For example, I needed caps for bottles and they come in packs of 2, so I ordered 10 of them. And all of the bottles I bought were sold individually, which was annoying and not so cheap but unavoidable.

WOW thats a lot of baby stuff. I want to see photos of it all when it comes

I have a registry at Babies R us in case someone asks what I need and there is maybe 12 things..lol All I really need is a couple outfits and maybe some blue towels, wash cloths, burp clothings and a couple blue blankets, cart cover etc... if not im just going to use pink and purple ones from DD.

I need to find someone who had a boy and is now having a girl and do a swap but I dont know anyone who wants to.

But I understand about your waiting 6 months and hearing all the DDC ladies going nuts. I cant afford to really buy much so hearing all the cool things they got and redoing the nurserys from there first kids makes me so jelous.
I am just thankful I was such a good saver from DD and all the big ticket items like swings and the room decor was unisex.
