So guys I work at the hospital as a Patient Care Assitant in the Medical/Oncology unit. Well my job is very physical... ALL my job is, is helping patients with normal day stuff. I do a lifiting, turning, transferring, bathing etc. Well ever since I got pregnant I told them I refused to lift and transfer extremely heavy patients. Also where my floor is ALSO medical we get a lot of random sicknesses and diseases. Well I can't take care of anyone with CMV, TB or people on chemotherapy due to the radiation cause it can cross the placenta...

Today I got pulled aside by one of my coordinators and found out someone was complaining about me saying I wasn't pulling my weight and I was just playing the "I'm pregnant" card. Well I was furious cause I'm on my feet 12 hours straight constantly walking, moving, bending etc. I even probably lift more than I should... People get extremely mad when they ask help lifting a patient and there like 300 pounds and I say no. Sorry but my baby is more important than that... I just can't believe someone complained about a pregnant person and I do, do my work just fine just need more help with lifting and can't take patients once in a while.

My question is should I go to my boss and say this is completely unfair? Should I get a note from my OB? Or should I just let it go?

My coordinator told me he didn't feel the need to go to my boss.. But I almost want to because not doing anything wrong.

What do you think?

If I were you, I would cover your tail and get a note from your OB very specifically stating the things that you are not allowed to do during this pregnancy. Legally, they cannot fire you because of your limitations (that would be discrimination), and the person who complained is TOTALLY out of line. In fact, I think your COORDINATOR is way out of line for even bringing it up with you. They should have discussed it with your boss, so that they could come up with an appropriate solution.

Ditto this! And I would definitely get a note.

I also agree with the other ladies. Get a note, cover your tail, and I would personally talk to your boss about how it was handled.

Totally agree with everyone else. Get a note, just to cover you!

I agree get a note just as a CYA. But talk to someone, because it is discrimination and creating a hostile work environment. You are in a federally protected class right now, and they can not discriminate against you because you are pregnant and have limitations. Even someone making little pregnancy jokes about you is considered harassment.

I could not agree more! I would get a note, then give it to your boss and discuss with YOUR boss. It is completely out of line, I don't have a physically demanding job most of the time, but they don't even like me to lift a 5 lb box, because they don't want anything to happen. Some people are just lazy and jealous, probably why the complainer said anything, that is just ludicrous!

I agree with the girls. Get a note from your OB, make sure the note is specific, this will help clear up any misunderstanding other people could have, make a copy of that note.
I would also take the note directly to your boss, tell your boss that you were happy how things were handle. Are you in any union? If you are talk to them.

I don't have a very physical job, but my boss now has decided that all the books that we get for my faculty I need to hand deliver them. I said that I refuse to do heavy books, I'm pg and since they don't give a rats *** about it, I won't either.

I'd get a note and bring it to you boss to have on file. If your boss ask why, then you let your boss know why you felt the need to have a note on file.
