My kids refer to their grandparents as "Grandma ______" and "Grandpa ______" where the blanks are the first names. Sometimes I feel bad that it isn't as formal as I grew up with (last names, not first names). But it's just kind of how it happened.

My kids will refer to my mom as "Nana" and my dad will most likely be "Grandpa." I don't know what my in-laws want to be, but most likely my MIL will want to be "Grandma."

I was reading the book Room and they referred to the step-grandfather as Steppa. I'd love to do that for DH's step-father! I feel it acknolwledges the step-grandparent's importance but I know my parents would be offended if DH's step-father got a "grandfather" title.

My parents are Grandma and Grandpa. DH's parents are Nana and Gjyshi (Albanian name for grandma and grandpa)

DH's host parents are Grandma _____ and Grandpa _____ filling in the blanks with first names since they aren't actually bio-family.

my mom and dad are Nana and Poppop, my inlaws are Grandma and Grandpa, but we don't see either of them enough for the kids to know who they are, we have to say remember nana and poppop, or grandma and grandpa.

kinda sad...

My in-laws are Grandma & Pop-Pop. My grandparents are Grandma ______ (last name) and Paw-Paw _______ (last name). My Stepdad is Paw-Paw Keith and my DS has always from the time he was very little called my mom Jamie (her first name). My mom thinks it's so cute that he calls her by her first name. Naturally I figure this one will just follow big brother.

Let's see.....

My dad is Poppy and step mom is Mimi.

My mom is Mam Maw.

My inlaws are just Grandma and Grandpa.

My paternal grandparents were Maw Maw and Paw Paw (it is a southern thing out here I guess).

I find it interesting how different some of the names are. I know my Grandmother has some great-grandchildren who call her Meemaw and some that call her Brennan and I'm not too fond of either of them lol.

For the inlaws it will be grandma x and grandpa x. For my mom all the kids have a nickname for her, so I'm sure this one will follow their lead.

My parents are called Grandma and Grandpa Hill. I call all my grandparents by their last names (well, except my dad's mom, but that's a really complicated situation). My husband's parents are Grandma Linda and Grandfather Pat. I still think it's a little weird to call Pat Grandfather instead of Grandpa. Matt always called Pat's dad "grandfather" but Pat called his dad "father" and not dad. Eh, I told them they'd get to choose what we'd call them around the kids so the kids would get used to it.

I personally think that's ridiculous. What right do your parents have to be offended about who his opposite-side grandparents are? My dad's stepmother is JUST as much my grandmother as my dad's mother is. For that matter, I still call my dad's ex-stepdad "grandpa" (AND his present wife is my grandma, even though I have ever, ever in any way been even legally related to her, let alone biologically!)

I could sort of see there being some sort of offense if your father was offended your stepfather got the "grandpa" title (my dad's mom isn't all that thrilled about his ex-stepdad's-present-wife getting called grandma), but when it's your HUSBAND'S step-father? What right do they have to care?

I understand what you're saying, Brittanie, and I, personally, feel the same way. I feel like my step-grandfather was more of a grandfather to me than my own biological grandfather. It's just the way they see it. I have a step-grandmother and even just at this past Thanksgiving my parents, aunt, and uncle were talking about how they hate that my other cousins call her "Grandma Judy" instead of just "Judy" like the rest of us.

That's so silly. Who cares what she's called. It's just a freaking name. Some step parents are more parents than the bio parents. I'm so sick and tired of people being offending by something so silly as a name. Who cares as long as the people are loved equally?!

Sorry, that's something that gets under my skin since I'm a step mom. I never make my kids call either grandparent different because they're step.

I know what you girls mean, my son was born and they were all picking what names they were going to be called. My mom said that she would be the only Abuela (grandmother) leaving my step-mom to figure out another name. But then my mom is like that.....
