I'm 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. Since this is my first time going into labor, what does it really mean? How much longer until the baby is born? The doctor said that it won't be this weekend, which I am happy to hear since we are taking DS to the aquarium.
Some women lose their plug weeks before the baby comes. I usually lose it within a week of going into labor (although I don't recall seeing it with my youngest).
As for dilation/effacement, it doesn't really mean much. All three of my labors have started when I was only 1cm. With my son my water broke at 1cm. With my two daughters I was 1cm at my appointment on Monday and they were both born on a Tuesday morning.
Mama to an elementary school boy, kindergarten girl, and my miracle toddler girl.
Three 10w losses (11/2010 + 8/2011 + 10/2014)
I lost my full plug at 37w4d with my 9yr old dd, was only dilated to 2 and 50% effaced. Dr. said at least 2more wks, and I had her the next day. I have also been dilated to 3 and 80% effaced for over 3wks with loosing my plug and did not have a baby until they enduced me. Could go either way!!
