I finally faced my fears and made 2 cloth diaper covers. I haven't messed with my sewing machine since high school, I think, and even then the most advanced thing I ever made on it was a pillow. The thought of making cloth diaper covers was really intimidating to me. I didn't think I could do it without making what a lady in my PR referred to as "frankendiapers". They actually turned out pretty good for a first-timer. The only issue is I made two covers before realizing I'm supposed to stretch the elastic on the back of them before sewing it down, ooops. At least I'm getting past the learning curve. Yay!!
So here they are. I'm pretty impressed, lol They are both size newborn. One has velcro closures and the other has snaps.
Those are toooooooo cute! I love cloth diapers and can't wait to start my stash! I'm not going to make my own but I'm trying to convince my mom to make some. She does quilts and other fancy stuff with her machine, surely she can make me some diapers, LOL.
AwwWw thank you!! If your mom can make quilts I'm sure she can make cloth diapers. She just needs a pattern and some materials for it. It's addicting so she would probably enjoy making some for you and her grandbaby. I would like to make some cloth diapers also, but I bought flannel instead of fleece, so I don't have the right material for the "wick away moisture" layer.
That's an idea though... maybe I should attempt to make a baby quilt. I'll probably wait until I'm further along. I'm pretty sure my Dr wants to put me on bed rest my last few weeks because of my issues with pelvic displacement during pregnancy.
I pretty much only make quilts, and with a pattern, I can make almost anything else. Those diaper covers are SUPER simple and I am going to tackle some when I know the sex of the baby I am pregnant with. I need a newborn stash, but that is all.
Those are absolutely adorable! They will be even more adorable bundled over your cute little boy's butt.
In the cloth diapers benefit discussion- aside from cost and hypoallergenic, are there other benefits? We are metropolitan residents and in an apartment with shared wash/dryer for building. So I hadn't considered it an option bc of this. But should I??
