So I had my neuro appt yesterday. My neuro is a top notch doc who specializes in perinatal neurology. I've been with him since my pregnancy with my son.
We talked about my migraines during the pregnancy, etc but we focused alot on managing migraines at the end of the pregnancy and post delivery, since there is a big hormone crash after the baby is born and that often kicks up big migraines.
He mentioned that he has treated a few moms with botox - right before delivery, to cut down on migraines for the three months after delivery, to help with the hormone crash/spike in migraines. And it's worked great.
Botox is a protein. A small amount will get into the mother's blood stream and cross the placenta, but because it's a protein, it will be digested and pass through the baby's system and at that point will not have the same effect as it does on the mother when first injected.
Any migraine sufferers out there tried botox and what are your thoughts whether you have or not?
