I admit it. I'm grumpy. I'm sleeping only a few hours here and there due to being uncomfortable now and it's taking its toll. So I'm sure I'm overreacting.

This morning DH calls me from work and says "What are we doing Saturday?" I'm thinking, Hmmm, a week to go before baby comes? Gee, every last minute thing I can think of. But I don't say that, I just say "I don't have anything specific planned'.

He says "Because I want to go Ice Fishing up at the lake." The "Lake" is over an hour away.

My jaw dropped. Seriously?

Oh dear. My jaw just dropped, too. Is there a gentle way to suggest very clearly that perhaps this is not the best time? And this also would leave you with all the work.I hope he comes to his senses.

A gentle way? I want to scream at him! We haven't done a thing. The car seat and pack and play are still in the box. All the shower gifts are still unwrapped. The bassinet is in pieces and the spot where it's supposed to go is occupied by a large trunk and a 250 lb television.

Not to mention that tomorrow, the OB is stripping my membranes in the hopes of getting things moving. I doubt anything will come of it, but, yeh, Saturday may not be a good day to be 70 miles away. *******.

How are you doing BTW Anna? You are having some pretty hard contractions? Think you'll be taking a trip to L&D this week?

Lmbo! Our car seat was in the box when we left for the hospital. I asked DH to grab the car seat on the way out. With my water broken and me dripping on floor DH asks "do we really need to bring this?" Please update with your response to DH.

I'd be PO'd also. Seems they just don't get it, plus they think that baby will come at our schedule and not baby's schedule. I would be thinking what if baby comes and your a darn hour away

Oh no! What in the world is he thinking?! Sounds like something my DH would do... It would be hard for him to think of anything else if he had the option to go fishing

I love fishing just as much as him. He's gone a few times this winter and I couldn't go because I don't fit in my ice fishing gear. Just that alone was insensitive. Not to mention that if I did go into labor, he's be 2 hours away from the hospital. AND I'd LOVE to see the look on the faces of other patients when he drove his truck/trailer/snowmachine/gear straight to the hospital and walked into L&D covered in fish guts.

PUTZ.

He asked me again this afternoon what I thought of him going and I said "Go ahead. For your sake, you better hope I don't go into labor while you're on a 30 mile long lake pulling in a 20" lake trout." Silence.

Oh dear. I'm sorry. I'd probably throw the boxed car seat at him, if I were in your situation. Sigh. If it consoles you at all, my DH, while close, still has no plan for the farm when the baby comes. Pretty much I think he'll be there for active labor, delivery and a few hours after. Because it has to do with FIL and that's a fight I can't really win I think I'm just going to plan on having lots of family support right after the birth.I was having hard contractions last week, every single night! Over the weekend they've slowed to being just plain cramps, like period cramps. Some heavier and longer lasting than others, but no pattern or rhythm as of yet. Next week my midwife will do a stretch and sweep, and I'm going for accupuncture on Monday. So, maybe things will get going for sure next week!
