Hi- My name is Sam. DH and I have been married since '05. We got pregnant in August of 06, but had a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks (baby only measured 8.5 weeks). Anyway, DH and I were referred to an RE for IUI because of some male factor issues. In the most unbelievable turn of events, we had our consult on Tuesday for the IUI and when the RE did a scan, he found I have tons of cysts on both ovaries. Because of other symptoms, he thinks I likely have PCOS, but the hormone tests aren't back yet. He also found a 12 mm "cyst" that he said could be a corpus luteum, because I was 8 dpo at the time. So on Wednesday I took a pregnancy test (actually, I took 5), and it was a BFP! I'm still in shock!

Anyway, I soon as I found out, I started obsessing over the fact that I might have PCOS or Insulin Resistance, that is not being treated with any medication. Apparently the miscarriage rate can be as high as 45-60%. This, coupled with my last miscarriage, has left me a wreck. I've called the RE's office and my OBGYN, and both are supposed to get back to me today. I was just hoping that I could join you all while I hold my breath in the weeks to come.

Well, I've talked to both offices now. The RE said that they are still waiting for my test results and they won't be back until next week. They said that they don't do OBGYN work, so even if we had undergone fertility treatment with them, they would have referred us to my regular OBGYN. They are just sending my paperwork to the OBGYN and said to make an appointment with them. She also said that if my homocystine levels come back high, the OBGYN may send me to a perinatologist, but it would be up to them.

Sooooo....then I talked to the OBGYN. They are having me go in today for a beta panel and then another one in 48 hours. They said it was too soon to see anything on ultrasound (I knew that was coming) , but that I should make an appt. for next week and we would go over my test results and schedule an ultrasound. Even though I don't have any more answers than I did this morning, I feel a lot better knowing that there is some action and monitoring taking place. Thank you all for the warm welcome!

congratulations on your pregnancy - WOW what huge surprise for you! I know of quite a few women who have gone to have an appointment for IVF & found out they were infact pregnant, or were due to start the next cycle, and found a BFP staring them in the face

I got pregnant with PCOS & had my daughter no problems! They will probably check your insulin resistanc, and if it is a problem, they will work out a course of treatment from there

I'm so happy to hear this.....I still don't know for sure whether I have it, but it makes me feel better to know that there are success stories, just in case I do!
