If you could give any new mother advice, what would it be?

Forget what you read, forget what people tell you you should be doing, follow your instinct on what's right because it usually is.

Sleep when the baby sleeps, whenever possible!
Books and friends and family and pediatricians are tools, not gods. You know your baby best.
Double-make the crib - scrambling around for sheets and pads in the middle of the night stinks.
Breast-fed baby poop comes in all sorts of colors and textures. Don't freak out.
Enjoy every moment. Take lots of pictures. Keep a diary. It all goes sooooo fast.

Sleep when baby sleeps
Be ready for everyone to tell you what you should be doing, but do what you think is right!

If your planning on breastfeeding do it. Do it every 2-3 hours and don't 'do bottles' or 'pumping' for at least 3 weeks. I think too many parents give up because it is hard but if they put in the time in the beginning it gets soooo much easier.

I'd say, get ready for a ton of unsolicited advice. It's annoying.

Cherish every moment!
Don't try to be supermom right in the beginning. Ask for help, accept help and life will get easier. Especially right after the baby is born. You just gave birth! Prop your feet up and let someone else cook dinner!

Listen to what people have to say, but in the end, follow your heart. A lot of it is instinct, and it hasn't failed me yet. I think a lot of parenting is just in our dna. We just have to do what we think is right, instead of what someone else says is right in various articles and books. It's easy to get confused and bogged down by all the information out there.

Also, sleep when baby sleeps. I wish I would have heeded this in the beginning. But I also wanted to do things when she slept. I was sleep deprived for awhile, because I fought it. Now I'll take a nap when she does. ;p

Don't sweat the small stuff. You are going to be late. Things are going to get messy. You will forget and/or lose things. Baby will fall and will most likely cry. It happens. Don't stress and just try to go with the flow. It's ok if you didn't finish the laundry today...it will still be there later but your baby isn't going to be this age forever. Enjoy it.

Don't try to get everything done at once! Take your time and don't drive yourself crazy with a "to do" list. Do what you can and make sure you take time to enjoy your family

Cherish EVERY moment. When they spit up, stay up all night, giggle and smile, babble... It goes so fast.

Watch your newborn baby sleep, Just take a mental picture. In a few months you will think, When did my baby get so big?
