Please, let me start by saying: I know that all babies develop on their own timetables. I am not trying to compare Johnny to Bobby or Susie or Annie or anything like that.

However, I'm a little concerned about John's lack of interest in physical 'activities'. He likes to stand, but mostly only on a person. He'll stand on the floor if you hold his hands, or brace himself on the couch or whatever, but not for long. He will NOT sit up from a laying position. He's on all fours, rocking, but hasn't moved (forward) yet - it's been almost a month. He gets to where he wants to go, really fast, by rolling, and he will stop partway there to 'adjust the trajectory', as the Mr. likes to say. He will sit, unaided, for quite a while, while playing, so there's that.

I'm not exactly in a hurry for him to crawl, or walk, but I feel like he's either slow to develop some of these skills or just an exceptionally lazy baby. Him being lazy wouldn't surprise me, based on his parentage.

I know it's all normal, and he'll get to everything when he gets to it, but sometimes I do worry...

I'm a first timer, too, but everything I've read says they just develop at their own pace. I have a good friend who had a daughter 2 days after my daughter and it is so amazing just how different they are. Sulli has been quick to crawl, stand, be physically active, but has yet to wave, talk or even hold her own bottle. My friend's daughter is just the opposite. Her fine motor skills are there, but she isn't as quick with the large motor skills.

I'm sure Johnny is just fine, but to you because I know it can be worrisome! Do you have a 9 month appt coming up fairly soon? It would be something I'm sure the pediatrician will be glad to address with you and put your mind at ease. For now, enjoy the days that you can keep a glass on the coffee table. My rugs will never be the same!

Parker is a speed crawler, you turn your head for 2 seconds and hes clear across the house in another room getting into everything hes not supposed to. he pulls up on everything and stands unsassisted for long periods of time and just recently he has taken his first step. He took two today, but fell on the second so I dont count that one.

Parker is one of the older ones of our group. his bday is 10/27

Wanted to add, Parker does not clap or wave. he looks at us like we are crazy or laughs at us lol he does hold his own bottle and says "Hi" "Da-da"

Sebastian doesn't crawl and part of me thinks it is less laziness (or lack of physical ability) but more due to him being content with how he gets around now. He gets around doing various methods (scooting, hoping, dragging, rolling) at a pretty decent speed and I think maybe he just doesn't realize that moving around on all fours would make him go even faster and mommy would never be able to blink again.

Jace is content to sit for the most part. He just started rolling and moving a bit on his belly (either by continuing to roll or going backwards) Jace will be 9 months on the 3rd. He is on the 'slower' side of physical stuff but I'm not surprised because my bigger boys didn't walk until 15 months. I expect him to be the same.

btw ~ I'm thrilled he isn't moving!! LOL!

He is fine. Maci is crawling great since 8 months, but my first didn't crawl till 10 months. They are all different and please try not to worry. Your pediatrician will let you know if you need to be concerned

Thanks, all. I think I just wanted to get all that out without feeling like a dope, and the internet is sometimes such a safe place to do that.

I'm not *really* worried about it. He's a big, strong, healthy baby boy and I know he's developing fine. But I kinda worry about it, you know?

His fine motor control is sometimes a little frighteningly good, so maybe he's just doing things a bit backwards - getting it all fine-tuned so that when he does start moving around he can cause the most amount of damage with the least amount of effort.

He sounds great to me! Kiefer and my daughter were both very fast as far as large motor development goes (crawling, pulling up, etc). My daughter, however, said a grand total of 4 words at 1 year old: bye-bye, baby, mama, and maaaaaa (our cat's name was Mac lol). I was so worried that at her 15mo appointment, I told her doctor I was convinced something was wrong with her lol. After she hit about 18 months, she started talking overnight and hasn't shut up since.

Kiefer started crawling before he could properly sit up on his own (I still don't always trust him sitting up cause he's so dang wobbly). He has been pulling up since about 7 months old but he just started saying dadadada recently and I've yet to hear mamamama or any other "normal" babbling.

Long story short, I think my kids are quick to get around but slow to speak up. Totally cool by me now that I know that its normal. It's easy for us mamas to worry but one of my favorite parts of parenting is the suspense and the not knowing what they will be developing next, both physically and mentally.
