What kind of shoes will you/do you get for a LO that is just starting to walk?

I think I'll go to Stride Rite this weekend, but I really have no clue what to look for. Except ankle support.

I just bought Alexa some shoes yesterday, they are Nike SMS Roadrunner. They have a flexible bottom and she walks really well in them. Here they are but hers are in a different color NikeStore. Shop the Official Nike Store for Shoes, Clothing & Gear

I got hers for $32 at the Nike outlet

I just went to stride rite his past weekend and the sales girl was super helpful. We went through tons of shoes and she finally pulled some that she said were their top sellers right now and it didn't hurt that they were on sale. They fit Luke's foot perfectly! We ended up with the

stride rite SRT Gavin - Stride rite

They were on sale for $19

Simple Kids Poodle (Infant/Toddler) Pink/Pink Confetti - Zappos.com Free Shipping BOTH Ways

These are the shoes we got for Lyra, since she started walking. She loves them, and they seem to be great for support. We took her to the store and tried on a bunch of different shoes, to see which ones she liked best. I'm glad we did that, because there were some shoes she refused to walk in. Or ones that were too busy, and she only wanted to stare and play with them. They do run a bit wide, as they fit her foot, and her foot is wide. They are really easy to get her foot into, which I never thought of as a problem before trying them on.

The Stride Rites they had there weren't wide enough, as they didn't have any wides. So I still want to get her a pair of those next in the wide option.

I don't put anything on my kids until they are walking already. After J started walking, I got her robeez to get her used to having something on her feet then she wore lots of converse, polo slip ons (they made an awesome converse-like slipon when she was little that fit her foot like a glove. We went through 3 different sizes in those).

Stride Rite Calista (Infant/Toddler) Black - Zappos.com Free Shipping BOTH Ways

I ordered Lyra a pair of these, since she doesn't have any dress shoes. And she's going to be dressed up for her birthday party. I think they could probably be pretty casual too. We tried on some at nearby stores, but there was no wide options. Thank goodness for Stride Rite. Hopefully they will fit her nicely.
