I'm beginning to feel like I'm nuts. I see posts on Facebook non-STOP where people are feeding their kids a bunch of junk! Young kids too! My cousin, who has a son about 6 weeks older than our kids, posted the other night "L is eating my cheesecake...AGAIN". And my sister & her partner feed their girls chocolate covered pancakes for breakfast and let them eat candy all day. They're a little older but still 4 and under?!

And these parents complain about behavior issues, ADHD, etc.

I am health conscious and want DS to be raised to enjoy healthy foods. His diet consists of mostly organic whole foods - fruits, vegetables, a small amount of meat, and a small amount of whole grain carbs (oatmeals, breads, pastas, etc). I am not over the top crazy about it but I also don't feel like it's right to let him eat candy, cakes, cookies, etc right now. I believe that a lot of our health issues as a country stem from what we eat.

Am I the only one? Am I being crazy and too strict on his diet?!? How do you handle "treats" if you have introduced them yet? When do you plan to introduce them? What are your LO's favorite foods?

We usually just feed her whatever it is we are eating. If I happen to have a piece of cake or sweet after dinner, she'll usually come over for a bite while I'm eating. I'm not going to go and give her a whole piece of cake, but she definitely takes a bite (or 3) from mine while I'm eating it.

That being said, we do try to make sure that she gets a balanced diet throughout the day. Or as balanced as we're willing to eat ourselves, lol.

I'm a lot like Ashley. I offer Kiefer anything I am eating. I definitely don't feed him gobs of junk but I will let him try something sweet that I am having. I am the same way with my 4 year old: treats only in very moderate amounts.

BUT, I will say I'm a lot less strict about it with Kiefer than I was when J was this age. This is only because we have issues getting Kiefer to eat anything at all and he has had problems losing weight so it thrills me sometimes when he will eat anything, regardless of what it is.

We're far from focusing on strictly organic but after letting my eat very little veggie habit rub off on my 2 older kids, I swore I would "train " lily to eat healthy. So far is had worked. She's picky about texture but loves her veggies and will eat a variety of foods. She eats what we eat for the most part but still enjoys her stage 3 jar foods too. She will get a bite of ice cream or cake now and then but doesnt care for juice or anything too sweet.

I don't feed Alexa many sweets other than bites from our food. But any time we can get her to eat we let her eat, she doesn't eat much.

We believe in 'everything in moderation' I'm not going to restrict Jax because I've seen that backfire with some friends (they are SO strict, don't let them eat ketchup even!) and their children eat so much junk as fast as they can when they are away from their parents. So occasionally he'll have a treat - a small cookie, some ice cream, etc. But we do eat healthy for all of our meals, so I don't feel a bit of a treat will hurt.
