So ever since Christian was born I have been ill and having trouble with all sorts of foods, turns out I have Celiac's. I think I recall seeing another mommy on here who has it as well. It was confirmed yesterday, so now I have to focus on gluten free and totally change how I cook and bake. I don't mean to be whiny, but I cook three times a day so it will be hard, but I am sure when I get used to it, it will be fine. Anyone have any helpful tips would be welcome!

Thanks! It was touched on briefly in some of my med classes, I need to go through some of my current med journals! I think I am being whiny about it because of my love affair with bread! I need to go back over my client list I am sure a couple of my maternity clients had it too.

Hey there! I have been gluten free 4.5 years. I mostly stick to naturally gluten free foods, but I have subs for almost everything.

I could overwhelm you with info, but instead of freaking you out- i will pm you my email and you can ask me anything you want to know.

The important stuff:

Cross contamination is a big deal. I used to think it wasn't but learned the hard way. Condiments that are shared (mayo, pb, butter, jelly ect) you either need your own container or train the entire house to scoop out with a spoon into a small container before dipping onto the bread.

Wooden utensils need to be tossed or by dedicated for gluten free. Plastic is ok to share if cleaned really well between uses.

Any pre made bread by energy is crap

Most people do best to go gluten and dairy free until the small intestine heals. Milk sugar is broken down by the very end of the villa, which can take time to grow back.

Celiac.com is a great resource, but some of the members on the forums a re a little nutso. (swear they react to gluten free foods etc)

Kat

I've been dealing with similar issues as well but haven't gotten a diagnoses yet. I've been thinking about trying the gluten free diet for a little while and seeing if I feel better. I think there are lots of family meals you can make. Rice or potatoes with meat have been the base for my meals lately. I just can't find a good replacement for a sandwich for lunch.

I have it as well...but I am not GF at present. I have been GF thru both of my pregnancies, however. Kat is a great source of knowledge but I can also help answer any questions too
