So DH and I are pretty sure we want a third baby but would like to wait about a year until we get pg. I'm frustrated because I can't use hormonal BC for health reasons, and condoms just don't work out with DH, and pull and pray is so annoying and I still worry about getting pg. I wish I could just NTNP and leave it up to God but we get pregnant right away if we don't use some kind of prevention. Having had my second c-section and a rough recovery I need to wait at least a year before putting my body through it all again.

I know that many couples struggle with infertility and I am blessed to be able to get pregnant so easily but sometimes I wish it wasn't this easy. Why isn't there just a form of male BC similar to a vasectomy but completely reversible?!?

Okay I'm done complaining now

I have a paraguard, which is a non-hormonal IUD. I can't do the hormonal stuff. I get awful migraines and other side effects. Once it's in, it is immediately effective. You can keep it in for up to 10 years or take it out at anytime and get pregnant relatively quickly (depending on the person).

If you don't mind me asking, what happens to you? I cannot take BC and have this same rant everytime I'm at the Gyno because they want me on BC! I take it perfect, then I dont get AF for a few months, then bleed uncontrollably for a few months! It's so annoying, but it has happened to my mom & my grandmother

I was on the pill for a couple years and then one day I started spotting throughout my cycles. We started using condoms, because I figured if I was spotting on the pill, obviously something wasn't going right. I tried a different pill with the same results, and then just stopped taking it. I decided to just let my body do its natural thing and DH has to use condoms...or we just go without and push our luck. lol

Hormonal BC causes my autoimmune disease to flare. I get stomach aches, bloated, mood swings, headaches, chest pain, some other random stuff. On the IUD I have 6 weeks no bleeding, then 6 weeks straight bleeding. Same problem on depo.

Niclis~ Do you have any side effects from the paraguard? Does it still allow you to ovulate?

The biggest drawback of Paraguard is your first few cycles your bleeding and cramps can be worse than usual. I have as always had the worst side of each to begin with, so I didn't notice a huge change.
I get all the same side effects as you on regular BC and have not ANY side effects at all on this. I have PCOS and know when I'm ovulating by the pain associated with it. It is definitely still happening!

I thought I was the only one who reacted that way, people look at me like I'm just making excuses to not be on BC when I say how they make me feel.

Nope! Anything with hormones does not sit well with me - I've tried a ton. The Paraguard is the first one that has been ok with me. I would get the worst migraines, nausea... absolutely everything. It would almost mimic bad pregnancy symptoms.

I hate hormonal BC too. I've never been able to take any kind of generic birth control pill..even if they say they're the same stuff. Every one I've tried gave me terrible side effects..constant cramps and bleeding for months and just feeling like crap. And I took one of the name brand ones for a while and the side effects weren't too bad (can't remember the exact name), but my insurance wouldn't cover it so it cost a ton and then I got pregnant while I was taking it. DH won't use condoms..so we just pull n pray.

Can't you use a diaphragm or cervical cap?

I think withdrawl will work okay for us, as good as any barrier method. It's just annoying sometimes. I think I'll start temping so I can be more sure of my fertile days which leaves more days where we don't need to use anything. Thanks for listening everyone

I've got a diaphragm and love it.

I was on birth control pills for a decade with no major complications, but then a doctor apparently finally read my chart and realized I have a family history of blood clots and migraines. No more hormonal BC for me.
