Ok, for those who are interested and hope to go... WHEN do we want to try to plan this meet-up? Looks like Chicago is the place. But when?

I'm thinking next summer sometime, to let those mommies with school aged children a chance to go, after school is let out. and the weather will be nice(r). but Iknow Chicago can be warm/hot in the summer, too.

AND, how long? a long weekend? (The TX/OK ladies can share to say "a weekend was enough!" or "no way! it ended way too soon!!" or something in between)

Obviously, we don't want to break the bank on this. Chicago ladies, any idea of festivals or events that this could be planned around? OR should we forget about that type of stuff.

And lastly, for now - not everyone will be happy with everything. As long as we all know this going in, it should make it all easier (in my head, at least). We should all try to accommodate as well as possible, but not everyone will get their way, all the time. Hate to be all "party pooper" but i feel it needs to be said now instead of trying to justify everything later. After all, there could be A LOT of people involved.

So, what are all yall suggestions?

yeah im sure summer is prolly the most practical... but it would be my last choice... spring or fall are typically much better weather wise... this summer has just about killed me!

I agree with summer and long weekend. We could plan for a long weekend, but have one central day where everyone meets, so that way people can stay for the long weekend or not, depending on their schedule. ??

Maybe early summer or late summer? Just to avoid the evil heat in the middle.... but I mean, I don't think it really matters. I'm up for any time of the year.

Summer probably works better for most, but I'm with Doris spring or fall would be way better. Definitely a long weekend!

I would say a long weekend too... BUT the downside to that is hotels tend to charge more for their rooms. Maybe we can see if we can reserve a block of rooms somewhere? We might be able to get a better deal that way.

I would say late May-mid July... and definitely a long weekend.

I have a friend that works for Expedia... I'm going to check with her to see if she has any pointers.

I am really hoping for an early summer or even late summer and yes to the long weekend. I won't have class then and my husband can get time off and we all can come.

we're up for anything.

weather-wise i would say may/june is MUCH better than july/august. i think we even had some 70* days in mid to late may this year.

i know i'm not from the city, but i can definately look into a festival or something if you all are interested in doing something like that.

also my cousin's wife (i guess that makes her my cousin too) works for the renaissance hotel downtown & she may also be able to offer some suggestions about blocking rooms or when might be a good time. i will ask when they return from their trip to alaska.

We have some relatives that live in Chicago so we would definitely try to make it. BUt then...I guess I would have to disclose the Kid's name once we arrived. I wonder if that would convince more roomies to come?

Hmmmm what about memorial day weekend? It is at the end of may and fits the long weekend requirement? The only other long weekend in the summer is 4th of July and can we say HOT?

I bet everyone will be slightly disappointed as I am sure they've come up with some exotic names for her.

Ok. So memorial day for sure is a long weekend. The weather is usually in the 70's by then I wanna say... but the weather here also sucks so sometimes it could be cooler. It can be a little rainy. And for those with older kids, school hasn't ended.

Labor day, which happens to be my birthday next year (sept 3) could also be a good weekend since its a long weekend? Temps are usually in the 80's. But school will either be starting or have started for the older rugrats. So I dont know if that's ok with some mommas.

As for july 4th, its a wednesday next year so how would we work that one out since it doesn't fall on a weekend? As for the weather, I've lived in chicago my whole life and I know these heat waves aren't really normal here. There's only been like 2-3 including this years. I can remember it usually being in the mid to upper 80's. So yea its still hot I guess lol but its better then the near 100's.

Crap I think I said enough lol! I prefer summer either way haha.

Oh and as soon as I have a chance I'll look up festivals or events during the summer. Including museums and things like that.

It doesn't matter when to me. I most likely would try to stay close to my family instead of downtown just because I know it'll be cheaper for us plus allow us to let them see the babies.
