Anyone else feel like their baby is still such a... baby? I look at all the pics and hear all the news from other babies in our PR and think "gosh they're getting big!" Some beginning to walk and talk, some eating TV dinners, some with full heads of hair. (Okay, maybe not the TV dinners, but you get what I mean). Hunter just seems so much littler! For example:

This is as close as Hunter gets to crawling. He lifts that one leg like a synchronized swimmer and wonders why he isn't going anywhere.

I am going to back out of this post ever so slowly since my son is probably adding to your angst.....

Just kidding. I think some has to do with socialization. B is a super social baby and is around older kids all day. He wants to keep up with them and learns by watching them. Take comfort in the fact that he will pick up their curse words and nose picking habits just as quickly.

His dad and I were also fairly advanced babies physically, so some may be genetics. He has his dads hyper driven focus. When he decides it's time to learn something, he will not stop until it is mastered and that includes SLEEP. While Hunter snoozes 12 hours a night, B is doing good to sleep 10, with a min. of 3 wakings.

Enjoy it. B doesn't want to snuggle or be held anymore unless it is on his terms.

Maddie talked late (I'm talking no more then one or 2 things til she was about 2, but now she won't shut up!), not even babbles, so I know it can be disheartening to hear that other peoples babies are doing things earlier then your's, but they will ALL get there on their own time. In the mean time, enjoy the stationary-ness.... it all goes down hiss once they are mobile

I so wish Jake was still not crawling! DD walked early (but all of our friends have older kids that she spent A LOT of time with, so attribute it to that) and Jake is doing things just as early, which I think is because he's trying to "keep up" with Maddie. ....

Hah! I can compete in this, the Kid mostly does the swim in place thing on her belly. Only very recently...like as of yesterday, started actually getting all fours underneath her and rocking. She can roll but doesn't use it as a form of transportation. She babbles but doesn't even attempt to speak a word. She still nurses 3-4 times a night and prefers BM over her pureed food. Oh, and no teeth either.

Haha! I love the pic!

Same here with seeing the other kids doing things. Knox is around them all day long & was "tracking" them within days of coming home from the hospital. The twins were a different story - they didn't even sit up on their own until about 7 months. They started crawling around 8 - 8.5 months. Marlee walked a couple weeks later (full fledged walking before she was 10 months) but Cade was 13 almost 14 months before he was walking a lot. So it just goes to show it depends on the kid. They were both presented with the same kind of learning/experiences/nurturing/ect and it was still almost 4 months between their milestone (the walking one that is). And talking? Pfft. Just like Megan said, neither of mine even really said much until after they were 2 & now they won't STOP EVER!! When Knox was born they weren't even stringing together more than 3 words. Now it's like a paragraph without stopping to breathe!

No worries! No rush! It's just like they say "we spend the first 2 years teaching our kids to walk & talk and the next 16 years telling them to sit down & shut up"

After having 3 kids I know kids will do things on their own time and not on anyones "checklist"!
example:
DS#1: rolled at 4 months, sat @ 6 months, crawled and said 1st word @ 9 months, didn't walk until 14 months
DD: rolled @2 weeks!, sat @ 5 months, crawled @ 5 months, didn't talk until 12 months, also didn't walk until 14 months
DS#2 : so far rolled @ 4 months, still won't sit, only army crawls, but already says 2 words

They have all been on different ends of the spectrum for different milestones, you'd never know the difference with my oldest 2 now though!

Makayla just laid around like a lump with the occasional rolling across the living room until about 2 days ago. All of a sudden she decided she was going to get up on her knees and by the end of the day she was crawling. She's still not very good at it..but she's moving now.

But I thought the same thing with DS...I'd read about all these other babies sitting and crawling and all he was doing was laying around. He "finally" started crawling a couple of days after he turned 8 months old. And then he didn't walk until a couple of days after his first birthday.

All babies are different! Maybe he will skip crawling and be the first in our PR to walk and microwave his own tv dinner

Everyone is right, all babies are different. The twins will be 9 months old next week and they have always been "behind" on all their milestones. Maddie finally started crawling 2 weeks ago, and Malia finally figured out how to move this week. Malia doesn't babble much, but her sister babbles non-stop. Malia was the first to sit up and Maddie didn't sit up until a whole month later. Even my identical twin girls are different babies that are developing at different times.

Olivia on the other hand started crawling at 8 1/2 months and then 2 weeks later she took her first real steps. She was baby running by 10 months. It was crazy and really sad at the same time because it seemed like my "baby" wasn't a baby anymore. After experiencing both extremes (a way advanced kid and two "take my time" babies), I really like the fact that the twins are taking their time at doing things. It makes me feel like I can enjoy them being babies a little longer.

Hunter will get there when he is ready.

Dude, I am so fine with Max being Max. I think everyday I have to snuggle my little "baby" is splendid. Especially since we most likely will not be doing this again.
He loves sitting and playing with his blocks. He can roll, but doesn't really unless it is to get something just out of reach. He can push himself around on his tummy. But only backwards and I'm not sure if he does it intentionally. No crawling, not even getting up on all fours.

Be thankful for the immobility, chasing a baby around all day is exhausting! I can't even go pee without putting him in his playpen. And the beautiful mass of hair he had has been chopped off

Adelyn did everything early. She was walking and talking at 10 months! Now at just over 2 she is really like a 3 year old. I'm proud of her but at the same time I'm enjoying that Lilah is still more of a baby. She's just started army crawling but doesn't particularly care for it lol. I like that she loves to be held and still eats baby food.

Every child is different. I think it comes down to personality. Addy is always thinking about stuff, very social, and very active. Lilah is happy to just be Lilah, prefers Mamma, and likes to play with what's around her.

Brendan still doesnt really roll around much. He does it when he feels like it which is maybe once or twice a day! He can go from sitting to his tummy and then push backwards but he doesnt even try to get up on his knees to crawl. He also does not pull up in the crib, take his diapers off or play with his stuff which I am grateful for Sometimes I wonder why he isnt doing it but I quickly appreciate it when I see everyones pics and comments about things their kids are getting into (Knox pulling his diaper, standing and peeing between rails or my friend panicking because she couldnt find her baby...only to have him hiding inside of the bottom of his exersaucer lol!, I could go on). I love being able to plop B down and know he will still be there if I run to pee or get a drink lol.

Thanks for putting it in perspective, gals! I do love the fact that I still get to hold Hunter a lot and snuggle him.

Kat, no need to back out slowly -- I love all our PR babies and am totes impressed with the little prodigies amongst them.

And Whitney... am I mistaken, or did a "most likely" just creep into your "one and done" philosophy?

Love it how you caught Whit. Love it.

I know it's hard to hear "all babies learn at different paces" when your kid is one of the "later" learners. Harlow still isn't crawling either. Everything but. Maybe she won't and will go straight to walking. Who knows? But, in a few years, everyone will be caught up more or less! My mom told me something interesting the other day. I have two older brothers. She knew right away that my middle brother was going to be a talker, was pretty bright, etc. Not that the oldest one was dumbo, but he was just DIFFERENT. Same mom, same dad, same social exposure, same everything, but different kid, different development.

My kid is just fine not doing anything. She doesn't like to roll over. So if its not in her reach she wont bother. She doesn't care for crawling or pulling up much. She just learned how to sit up today actually.

Ohhhh Whit I too caught that. C'mon girl you and I were in the one and done club!! Be Strong!! I'm tooootally kidding of course

Smashie - Looks like there are kids that do all sorta stuff just when they're good and ready and like Mrs. B said a while back... I don't think when our kids are graduating etc we'll be comparing who sat up first etc...

And besides... if Dr. Big Grin says it's perfectly normal then it must be true!!
