Hi everyone!

Are any of you having a hard time with sold foods and your LO?? I am having the hardest time feeding Caleb solid foods. He has such a slight gag reflex. Even the stage 3 gerber foods (with small solid pieces) are tough for him. Is this just a learning curve?

Any advice??

Derek doesn't have a problem, but I know other babies are not liking solids.

I just tried to give Chloe a stage 3 food last weekend and for some mouthfuls she would do fine, then other times she would gag. She does fine with the puffs though, so I don't know if it was just a new/weird texture for her or what. I'm just going to keep trying it here and there to get her used to the chunkiness.

If she's anything like me, the whole "chunks in smooth stuff" will make her gag forever. To this day I can't handle fruit chunks in my yogurt, it just makes me gag instantly!

Nathan used to eat anything, now that he's on formula he refuses all solids! I think he's become a lazy eater! He only has 2 teeth so I don't give him a lot with chunks in it (just tiny ones). Hopefully this is just a phase.

Susie hates food, but I think it's getting better. She will try something - puree, puff, mum-mum, tiny piece of fruit, whatever - and immediately spit it out. It's like her tongue-thrust reflex is still working overtime. If the offending item doesn't get off her tongue immediately, she will gag herself until she throws up. Naturally, we stopped trying to feed her solids very much.

We weren't too concerned since she's hitting all her milestones and is a healthy, happy baby, but at her last appointment, the doc was a bit worried especially since her weight is low (14 lbs 15 oz as of a week ago). The lactation consultant suggest that sometimes breastfed babies are used to flavors coming through in our milk, so they refuse bland baby food. So for the past week we've been pushing food a bit more, and have been a bit more daring with what we let her try. We put puffs and mum-mums on her blanket in the living room for her to find and play with and have let her try some veggie straws and graham crackers. I think it's working. Today, she ate a total of 5 puffs, spitting each one out at most 4 times before swallowing what was left!

It's really hit or miss with Darcy. I tried a stage 3 food a few days ago and she started gagging on it.

Hunter still prefers purees. He makes an exception for puffs. Anything else will gag him.

I totally think it's a texture thing, and also a phase. Some babies take to solid food faster than others. One of my good friends has a 1-year-old who only recently started eating chunks of food without gagging.
