Put clear inserts into the sockets we arent using, plus cover adapter things over the larger plugs, we put childproof things on our cabinet under the sink with some chemicals and another cabinet with pet food and kitty litter but we left most cabinets/drawers open for him to play with the stuff inside if it wasnt heavy or dangerous, and we move our ottoman in front of the TV stand during the day for him to cruise around but he cant get to the PS3/TV/DVD players or the wires underneath since its open glass. We keep the bathroom door shut and we have gates to Brendans room and our room (more for the dogs to stay out but works for him too lol) We are going to put a round gate thing around the Christmas tree.

we've done the socket inserts and locks on the cabinets. I'll be happy when we can get a babygate.

We installed gates at the top of the stairs as well as one at the bottom of the stairs so he can't sneak away on us. We have outlet covers on all unused sockets. Anything dangerous was put out of reach. This weekend we're going to install drawer/cupboard locks. Mostly we just keep our eyes on him.
