Baby Garry is sick and it's making me nervous. We made it 13mo with out even a sniffle and then on Jan 27th had to take him to the pediatrician because he was walking like a drunk man. Which I knew meant inner ear trouble. And of course I was right. He had a double ear infection. Other than the walking you would never know he was sick. My baby is such a trooper, he doesn't even cry with shots. Anyway he took his antibiotics, which he loved, he would cry when I put the bottle back in the fridge. When they were gone he seemed to be better. Then last week he started not taking his naps in the afternoon, and on Thurs he fell twice at my mom's and hit his face on the floor. So I took him to the walk-in clinic that night. His left ear had some fluid in it but no infection, and his right ear was infected. The Dr thinks that some of the bacteria was resistant to the first antibiotic. So he got almost completely better to the point where we couldn't tell that the whole infection wasn't gone. And then the little bit of bacteria that was left rebounded. He gave us a stronger antibiotic, which thankfully Garry likes the taste of too. Then on Sat he started getting a runny nose and a cough. I didn't take him to the Dr for that because he's already on antibiotics and if it's a virus they can't do anything for it anyway. Baby was kinda lazy Sat and Sun. He just played gently and wanted to be held alot while we watched cartoons. Today was DH's day off so he was home with Garry all day. He told me that the baby had a good day but didn't want to eat much. He wouldn't eat even a bite of dinner, and when I put him to bed he felt warm so I took his temp. It was 101 under his arm, so really 102. I gave him some infant fever reducer and put him to bed. I just checked his temp again under his arm since he is asleep and the meds have had time to kick in. It has come down to 99 so really 100. Since this is the first time he's been sick I don't really know what to do. Should I just keep up the fever reducer and let his body fight off the virus as long as his temp doesn't go up over 104 or should I call the Dr in the am and take him back in to get checked out. I don't want to put him at risk of something bad happening, but I don't want to jump and run to the Dr for a simple head cold that they will just send me home and tell me to use Tylenol.
I'm sure some of the other mommies have gone thru this before. I think it's just because this is the first time he's been sick that I'm so confused.

I'm so sorry he's sick. Jaxon is sick as well. I would just keep what you're doing. I took Jaxon to the doctor this morning and there is nothing they can do. He don't have a temp though.

I hope he gets better soon.

we just went through something like this with cheyenne, three days after her shots she got wicked sick, then started running a fever of 103. she wouldnt eat, or sleep this was her first ever time getting really sick like that it scared me, but we just kept her home and gave her Tylenol ever 3 to 4 hrs. it's just a nasty bug going around it lasted a week for her. Hope he starts to feel better soon.

Thanks guys. I think he's getting better now. His fever was 102 before Tylenol on Monday night and 100 after. When he woke up Tues it was still 100 so I gave him another dose before I left for work. I don't think Garry gave him any while I was gone and his fever was back up to 101 when I got home so I gave 1 more dose. Then this am his temp was down to 99 so I didn't give anymore Tylenol because I do want the fever to do what the body is trying to let it do, I just don't want it too high. When I got home tonight temp was down to 98.6. I think he's over the worst of it and we just need to finish the antibiotics for the ear infection. I am taking off tomorrow to stay home with him just in case, because I don't want to risk sending him to my mom's and getting my nephew sick since momma keeps both of them. If the temp stays normal tomorrow we'll go back to our normal routine.
