We are hosting a "Day After Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Dinner" at my house this year. A combination of family and friends and only about 10 people. We are cooking the standard Thanksgiving dinner, but not in a way that everyone had it the day before. So I am looking for new twist on the old classics. I don't want to have different dishes, but just a new way to cook the same ones. For example, John's mom makes the exact same dressing every year that her mom and her grandmother made. It is delicious and everyone loves it, but I am making an apple bacon cornbread dressing. I still want dressing, just not hers.
So...I would love to know what your favorite dish at YOUR Thanksgiving table is and could you please (pretty pretty please) include the recipe (or a link to the recipe)?
I have an appointment at 10, but will be coming back to post the dressing I am making this year.
I always make pie and my favorite it Chocolate Pie. However, it is also the least creative Thanksgiving food ever I make a pie crust (or if I'm lazy I buy one!) and then make Jello Instant chocolate pudding according the the "pie filling" directions, and then pour it in the crust.
However, if you are looking for a twist on a chocolate pie, then I used to make a delicious pie that was 12 oz soft silken tofu and a bag of melted semi sweet chocolate chips mixed together in a blender and poured into a pie crust. Then refrigerate until serving. It sounds weird, but it's really good!

1 tbsp olive oil
2 slices bacon, chopped
1 small macintosh apple, chopped
2 ribs celery from the heart, finely chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2tbsp fresh chopped sage leaves, or 1 tsp ground dried sage
2 tbsp freshl chopped thyme leaves or 1 tsp dried leaves
2 store bought corn muffins (or made at home - my store doesn't carry corn muffins)
Preheat a medium skillet over medium high heat. Add oil and bacon to the skillet and cook 2 minutes. Add apple celery and onion and season the mixture with herbs, salt and pepper. Reduce heat to medium. Cook vegetables 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Crumble the corn muffins into the pan and combine stuffing.
