Hi, I'm Kim. I am married and have 3 dds. We currently live in Northern MA (renting) and want to buy a house in about 4 years. DH's family lives in CT, so we want to move to be closer to them. But we aren't sure if we should just move to Southern MA (around Southbridge, Oxford, Northbridge, Douglas, etc) or if we should move to CT (MIL lives in Norwich, but we are open to surrounding towns). I've been trying to figure out the cost of living, which schools are good, lowest crime rates, etc.

So who lives in Southern MA or Eastern CT? Would you recommend it? Tell me everything you can! TIA!

Sorry, I'm from NY so can't help much- but this site: City-Data.com Forum: Relocation, Moving, Local City Discussions is GREAT for relocating and information. Just go to the state you want to research.. and search within the forums. People will talk about crime, schools, etc, all over the place.

Welcome!

I live in North Eastern CT, and I generally like living here. It's a quick and easy ride to Worcester, Hartford, Providence and New London from this area. You mentioned wanting to buy a home in the future, right now the housing prices in Windham county area excellent and generally tend to be much lower than the rest of the State and there are also lots of available rentals in this area (we are looking to move soon to make more room for baby so we have been looking at real estate both renting and buying because we can't decide yet if we feel completely ready to buy so we are keeping our options open).

I prefer CT to MA because believe it or not, CT has lower taxes (sales tax, property tax, and income tax were all lower in CT versus MA the last time I checked).

If you have any specific questions about the area just let me know
