We got back from our trip this afternoon! We had such a good time! We left saturday morning and drove down through Kansas and stopped at the Wizard of Oz museum. It was ok but was kind of disappointing. But I got a picture of Dorothy's house. Then we drove through the panhandle of Oklahoma, then down into Texas and into Amarillo. We ate at the Big Texan. Their steak is amazing! Then we left and drove through Lubbock and stayed the night in a small town. The hotel was nice but there was a couple arguing all night. Then we got up and drove to San Antonio. We went to the Alamo, that was really neat. Then we walked down to the riverwalk. I had heard that it was really cool but we only found one shop and about 30 restaurants. And we went through a western history museum that was interesting. On monday we drove to College Station and went to the George Bush library and museum. That was really interesting. They also had 1/3 of the NASA museum there just temporarily. That was cool. Then we left Texas and drove through the corner of Louisiana. That was neat, it was cool how tall the trees were on either side of the road. Then we drove up through the corner of Arkansas. Then tuesday morning we drove back into Oklahoma and discovered mountains! We had no idea Oklahoma had mountains! It was so cool, but of course it was really foggy and the road was narrow, winding and downhill. I think I had a deathgrip on the door the whole time. We ended up staying in Hays, kansas tuesday night with Dh's brother. And then we came home today.
We both really liked Texas. The scenery was really pretty, the people were very nice, and the weather was perfect the whole time.
The kids were staying with Dh's parents so we called there each night and got to talk to Keith. The first night we called the first thing Keith said was, mema, papa, baby, puppy. It was like he was telling us who all was there.
Anyway, here's some pictures we took.
At the Big Texan.
The Alamo. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside but it was really neat.
This was in the western history museum, I thought Dh looked pretty sharp.
Sounds like fun! Where is the Wizard of Oz museum? I'm from Kansas but have never seen it, so I'm gonna guess it's not on my side of the State. I remember as a kid going to Dodge City....that was fun! They were all dressed in period clothing and had a shoot out in the streets! Great pics. I agree, the jail one is funny!
