We had this conversation on vacation--when you go to a different area of the country or even out of the country, do you feel like the people are friendlier or more standoffish? My SIL's are from NY and they always laugh about how everyone in the South waves or will carry a conversation like they know you. They say that it's not like that anywhere else! Do you agree?

I totally agree. My dh is from Ohio and I'm made fun of for replying to the cashier asking me how I was doing. My dh said it's rhetorical ?, they have to ask. I must admit they do act shocked when I say, "Fine and how are you doing."
