That was my new years goal to become more eco-friendly..

I now recycle everything I can; as soon as the frost stops I'll start composting; I've stopped buying all plastics; changed the girls sippies to "safer" ones..

I do lots of little things, recycle, I always rinse out cans and jars. Im not so great at recycling paper, just newspapers.

I walk more now that I live in town.

I use those energy effcient light bulbs.

I used to do laundry at night to avoid power peaks, but with a baby I dont so much anymore, I try to at least use the dryer after 9pm.

Lights are out by 9pm, only computer and tv on.

I use cloth diapers during the day at home. Less garbage and money.

Weather stripping, turning stuff off and unplugging things when we go out overnight.

Unplug things that arent used daily.

- We switched to green power last year (all wind generated).
- we recycle everything - paper, plastics, metal, glass
- we compost all food waste (www.naturemill.com)
- we have energy efficient appliances, and I only run the washing machine and dishwasher with full loads
- we offset our carbon emissions
- we car pool to work

It's really not hard once you start. The changes are small but I believe that they will ultimately make a big difference.

I could do a lot better, but I'm slowly changing:

-use a front load HE washer with ECOS soap for most of our clothes
-use the newer lightbulbs
-will start CDing DS when my order comes in this week-for night to start with
-lights off when not in room
-trying to use dishcloths and tea towels for toddler clean up instead of paper towel-I was going thru 3 rolls a week!!
-parking in the garage so we don't have to warm our vehicles up in the winter

I buy mostly organic food
I use chemical free cleaning products
I use natural laundry detergent and fabric softener
I buy all green products like toilet paper etc that is recycled.
I recycle
I particpated in Earth Hour!
We only have energy efficient light bulbs in the house
We turn down the thermostat 3 degrees at bed time
we shut lights off when we leave the room
We are actually getting this thing installed through our hydro company that will cycle down our central air when there are peak times and they need it to be.

How does that work?? I've heard about it and dont know anyone thats actually done it. I've heard its super expensive to get started.

I also do full loads of laundry with cold water, and I dont have a dishwaser, so no need for full loads for that

It's easy to use green power. Your local electricity provider may have a "green" option. If not, go to www.bullfrogpower.com They will calculate your monthly usage then you pay a fee, and they will put the same amount of kW of wind energy back on the grid. Our monthly fee is about $12.
