Okay, so my DH does not have any sort of career or trade. He works at a gas station. He used to work outside, but now he mostly works inside. This week he was set to help outside because some guy needed the week off. No big deal. Its not the best of jobs, and of course most people need to make some kind of comment about his job. Yes, I get it, he's a gas jockey. Whatever.
Obviously he needs a better job. Right now the main reason he keeps this job is for the convenience. His boss is a really cool guy and always helps us out when he needs a day off, or needs to be late, or needs extra hours, KWIM? My complaint is not his work. My ranting right now is not about his work... its the fact that they just switched his particular station from full serve to self serve.
So half the staff just got fired, and DH loses a bunch of work this week. His boss said next week it would all be sorted out, and DH would be the first to get full hours again... but UGH. Even the few days this week he loses means a big hit in our already cruddy budget.
I also feel bad for his boss. He is a great guy, and has really been a huge help to us in so many ways, pretty cool considering its just a gas station. The boss was just informed LAST NIGHT that this was happening! The big head corporation just up and decided, leaving him no notice whatsoever. So now he has to pay the staff he is firing all the hours they were scheduled for this week.
*Sigh* Its horrible for everyone.
I know its not the most reputable job in the world, but like I said, right now it serves us. I would rather DH have a flexible job with a good boss, than something that isn't flexible but pays more. Money isn't always everything...
Its the craptastic economy hitting again, last night they laid of 87 more people from my husbands work. He just hits the line having worked there for 5 years so he was spared, still I feel terrible for all the people suffering through this all Things are tight with us too as it is. I don't know what we will do if he loses his job.
