I understand the need to let people know about it but they are making too big of a deal about it. More People die from regular influenza than this and they are making people panic.
I am going to take more care in washing my hands and wiping things down but i'm not about to walk around wearing a silly mask!
I agree that the media is blowing it up. I know the normal flu is deadly to people with weakened immune systems and that way more people have died from the regular flu than swine flu, but I'm still a wee bit concerned. We do what we can to stay safe but won't go as far as wearing a mask.
Huge thanks to *Kiliki* for the FANTABULOUS new siggy!!
I'm very concerned for my family. My Mom and brother both have weakened immune systems and they live in Vancouver where the population is HUGE. For my own family not so much. James is still little and not interacting with a ton of people really, we live in a very small town and Dh works in a really small shop with only 6 other people. We are sticking around home a bit more though that is for sure.

Why are they telling us to wash our hands so much? You can't kill a virus with antibacterial soap. I mean, I wash my hands a lot as it is, and it is a good idea, but I think the papers are just having fun with this one because it attracts readers. A headline that reads "Swine Flu is now Phase 5" sounds terrifying but all it means is there is human-to-human spread of a virus in at least two countries in one region. This could mean as little as one or two people in Canada have it and one or two people in the United States...total.
I think people obviously do need to be careful but you have to live your life! The flu could be anywhere and if you are going to get it, you are going to get it.
PS...I hope nobody gets it!
I just rememberd that we had dinnner at my husband's parents' house last night and we couldn't eat the pork chops we were going to make because his mom thought we were "going to get the pig flu"
This is what the media has done to us! No BBQ on a hot spring day!!!
I'm still trying to figure out what the symptoms are and how they are any different from a regular flu. I totally agree that this is being blown out of proportion. I do think that anyone who has come back from Mexico should as a precaution stay home from work for a week, so they don't spread it just in case.
